Its gotten pretty nuts over there. Started looting the place a couple hours ago and its now escalated to stealing a JCB, severe damage to the building, stealing the safe and using the jcb to break it open and then setting the lidl on fire.

Army and fire been called out.

Sad thing about it is .people will probably loose their jobs . And the courts... after listening to some well off parasite of a solicitor pleading for them how bad an upbringing drugs etc etc

To get them a suspended sentance.

Bet they will not serve time

Also anyone any comments to make about the woman going for a swim today and having to be rescued..no she should receive some sort of a fine

the pic of lidl on fire is an old pic from a different store. they did loot a centra though and set that, and the apartments above on fire. hit a petrol station and a pharmecy, and looted all the cars in the luas car park as well.

few of them dumb enough to post vids and pics on scial media showing their faces and their haul as well. it was well planned though, as the driver knew exactly how to use it. wont find bread in a safe though.

I know we can't be painted with the one brush but I went out today at 26 and had snowball fights with little kids and built snowmen and walked around limerick and saw an amazing community spirit and pure joy and happiness that I haven't seen in years. When I got home I was almost in tears with laughter scrolling through Facebook watching all the jokes and funny snowmen posts. I was even boasting that the Irish are the funniest people in the world but this shit in Dublin now is what will hit the headlines in Europe. Fucking idiots.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here for a moment.

Argh!!!!! It's some people who stole some things. Yes, it's bad. The people doing actual physical damage is worse. It's on camera and they'll be caught.

Still, this over emotion is so archaic, this idea of 'being shown up' or 'mortifying for the Irish' It reminds me of being told off by my mother when I was eight. -'you're a disgrace to this family....blah blah blah'

Every country has people who steal, why is that? I'm much more curious about this than the actual act.

Bankers robbed this country, peoples' pensions, peoples' futures, peoples' savings are completely gone. Wow, if only we had Anglo Irish bankrupting the country on a nine second video from a cellphone.

Stuff got stolen, things got broke. Oh the shame!

Is it bad, yes. I acknowledge that. But comparatively, not really. It's a papercut in comparison to a heart attack.

Did you see the video from the front of the store? They actually collapsed the building! That's 40 people out of work for 6mths most likely. No respect for the people in their own area that likely work there.

Completely agree with you about the bankers. In the UK, most of them got jailed within a year, whereas in good old fiddle de Dee, backhander land, the majority are in even higher paying jobs or got huge golden handshakes.

Still doesn't excuse the behaviour that went on today.

30 people out of work isn't bad ?. Dublin as one of Europe's top tourist destinations takes a hammering in the international media. My friends mum lives 500 yards up the road from that store and is afraid to leave her home in broad daylight anymore. I really don't get how you can belittle this crime by playing devils advocate. Bankers and associated criminals as far as im aware had nothing to do with the blatant destruction of property and job losses in jobstown tonight. It is what it is

It's upsetting yes, and scary. I doubt this story will be important news in international media and I'm confident Dublin's tourist ratings in Europe will remain high. I'm sorry about your mum's friend being scared, that must be frustrating.

Finally, there's a difference between belittling and having a different view. It's bad, yes. But I don't think it tars the whole nation.

No U.K. news channels (mainly sky news) never once mentioned how bad Ireland was hit with the snow for the first 3 days, red status alerts etc.. yet Scotland was all over the sky as soon as they went red. Crime and dramatic videos will always sell well on tv so hence the expected coverage of it.As for comparing a crime to the bankers and yours numbers not being affected its hardly a good example of one crime vs another crime. What happened last night is absolutely vile, these people have no respect and yes they are 100% scumbags. There is even video's of young toddlers being bought into the store...how messed up is that.Thankfully these scmbags are a minority and the majority of people have shown superb community spirit in recent days with the cold snap. As for anyone trying to start a Dublin vs limericks argument....grow up...this could of happened in any county, there is always scumbags in every town.

I hope the judge locks these arsehole up for a long time.Hell of alot I feel goes to how people are reared and thought the difference from right and wrong.what are the odds many of these have already had criminal records for some crimes already.

I hope in this day and age people are more intelligent than to still hold the belief that where you come from defines your character. Keep in mind that the vast majority of those carrying out stolen good were born and raised in ireland. Their nationality is for all intensive purposes irrelevant

Being from citywest it's my local Lidl. It's an absolute disgrace. Nothing but dragged up pieces of shit. They should be publicly shamed when caught up with. I've woken up this morning to plenty of posts on Facebook with friends naming and shaming looters and those who caused damage. I for the life of me hope they get what they deserve. Army/guards shooting last night would have been fully justified, some of the little rags don't deserve a heartbeat.

Just my two cents

After reading the posts on this subject it’s clear people say it was wrong but can condon the actions because of one reason or another and thus confuses the issues . It’s simple it was wrong

No excuses it the past looters were shot and if we condone it the crime will become common place so let’s get real here there no grey area here there is wrong and right

One of the first thoughts that went through my head after seeing them wreck the lidls with the jcb, was there is a few peoples jobs gone.

They are absolute low life's, should be named and shamed, with their faces plastered all over social media.

Hopefully they het what's coming to them, but in this soft touch of a country, will probably not be much.

What we trying to say is funny how the likes of sky only want to mention a crime story instead of what’s also going on in Ireland. Remember reading that sky news Ireland was scrapped and sky news would cover both U.K. and Ireland news together.

"There's a very simple solution to this make the punishment a deterrent don't give suspended sentences or community service give them hard labour make them break rocks, dig holes repair pit holes what ever just make it hard work and 12 hours a day for the term of their sentences they might think twice of doing crap again "

Not going to happen . The do gooders will be out on force. Telling everyone about how bad their life's are etc. Don't buy a tv licence now that will get you sent down. I'll stop now

RTE and TV3 likely need any cheap footage they can get given the paucity of their news budgets.

It’s hard to get someone in Cornwall to give a xxxx about what’s happening in Scotland never mind Ireland.

As for SKY - I’m not going to defend those evil right-wing Murdoch shills. What do you expect from a pig but a grunt?

Good point maybe we can balance it out with giving them a very bad diet

I don't get the job losses so many speak about. Surely Lidl will reopen and needs staff and I'm pretty sure the staff has contracts. So where's the job losses coming in?

"Makes me ashamed to be Irish.

You know some of them werent irish at all..some were the children of immigrants that we allowed into our country

Its an area pass through pretty often and have been in that store several times. There are two what you might call "immigrants" in thr tills. Should we try have them deported now that they are jobless immigrants .

I hope in this day and age people are more intelligent than to still hold the belief that where you come from defines your character. Keep in mind that the vast majority of those carrying out stolen good were born and raised in ireland. Their nationality is for all intensive purposes irrelevant "

Its about time somebody called a spade a spade none of this politically correct bullshite that you are spouting out of you..wasnt their a gang of african teens mugging taxi drivers in d15..id say their parents tried to raise them as good people but they will always revert back to what comes natural to them..animals will always be animals

Very simple. Anyone who is caught. Lock them up for 6 months and have them do hard labour in the community all chained together. Then take away ALL welfare benefits should they we in receipt for ever!

Sheer scumbags.

They might if they are lucky be offered redeployment, which most staff might not be able to get to, and therefore job gone! It will take ages to reopen if it does at all! I bet they won't reopen.

I really wanna know how many convictions these fools already have and why they are out on the street still. As for giving them a job as punishment, ive discussed that several times with people and apprently they are so thick they would cut the hand off themselves if given any instrument at all and then sue the state. There should be special court hearings held instantly and these thugs fucked into jail instantly...cut their dole and deprive them of any tv or luxeries whilst they are in jail. The justice system and jails arent hard enough on these guys, take away all freedom from them make them feel vunerable and deprived and if they complain then give them another month in the place.

On their Twitter account this afternoon, Lidl confirmed that they will be "paying staff and redeploying to other stores in the area" until the store is reopened.

In a large number of countries they don't bother arresting looters. It's tantamount to treason. One of the few those times lethal force is justified.
