I just had an RTE investigative journalist contact me on Kik looking to expose the dangers of online dating / swinger sites and social media apps like Kik. Be very careful folks what photographs you share in particular face pics as it appears they are planning some form of programme on the topic and are fishing for personal details.

They cant show your face or anything that would identify you on irish tv.

If they expose you as a swinger, even if its true, it wont matter, the liable laws in Ireland would say it is not news worthy and you would get a couple of hundred grand.

I have been contacted by "rte" people on various sites saying they were going to do a story, and it always ended up being true.

RTE uses footage of me before, they changed my voice and blured everything out, I sounded like some mad egg.

I quote from what they said verbatim:

'Btw I’m a reporter for RTE´ I’m doing a follow up to the the report on Kik and amazing how a face can be traced .' & 'Online dating is a massive industry, and its to show people the dangers and red flags to online dating'&'I can search your face to see who you are perfectly legal , I can change name and make picture blurry . No need to worry. Honestly just very interesting culture.' & 'Look I wish you the best but if you ever think of doing an anonymous interview.....my colleague Colm O Mongáin is our male reporter.'

They can not use any pictures or details from your profile without your consent. We still have privacy laws in this country. So unless it’s a case of national security I think our fun sexy naked pics on this site is in good hands. But pictures sent via KiK is another whole ball game. be careful who you send pics to on kik.

I make you wrong there my friend. Anything that appears on the internet can be reproduced, copied or transmitted as long as it is done in a fair way and is not slanderous, malicious or intended to harm. Trademark and copyright laws protect individuals and companies. That shite of Sydney University means nothing, same as some shite I saw on a profile that said if someone used one of their pics, they would be invoiced €25k and by using the photo, they accepted that condition. Absolute rubbish. If you log out of Fab and do a google search for Fab and see how much information is available to see for free on Fab. You don’t even need to sign up to Fab or be a member, paying or not to see it.

You’re mistaken on various points and you confuse Privacy Laws with IP laws to draw wrong conclusions. There is a significant argument to be had whether content in a paid site is ‘public domaine’ or not but having pictures on here certainly doesn’t waive your right to privacy when it comes to being identified in a publication. Being identified and using your pictures are two different matters.

Furthermore one imagines Fabs terms and conditions contains a form of limited licence over the use and reproduction of pictures. Most amateur sites do for this very purpose. It allows fabs to stop its content appearing on picture board services or recycled in sex sites. Protecting its customers is very vital to a site like fabs surviving.

Thats not to say people shouldn’t be careful - sadly ‘sex sells’ and places like The Vanilla Club are going to be very attractive to the news industry. People in the lifestyle are as much part of the problem - they will demand venues stop other people having their phones / handbags etc but they themselves want their own phone / handbag. It’s always ‘other people’ who are the security risk.

The Sydney university thing is an urban legend - any website owner will tell you they would rather not have it on profiles simply because text is data and thats data that dosen’t need transmitted. There is no Sydney survey and there is no legal point arising.

The 25k constitutes an offer to treat and if the vendor can prove that the newspaper were aware of the terms (ie could show they have visited the page) those terms would be binding. At the very least one imagines the purpose it to make a journo think twice about using those particular pictures. Newspapers legal departments have taken a hit recently over several lifestyle related cases.

The simplistic answer is - don’t buy newspapers that deal in sex stories (the Sunday World, The Sunday Life) and don’t watch RTE when they have ‘exposes’.

As regards the OP - why would the person contacting you give another journalists name and not their own? It sounds fishy rather than accurate (RTE Expose - find out how journalists find out stuff about people’) but I’d be concerned you were talking to somebody even making up that shit. Those are the people to worry about. Lots of lifestyle people in Ireland have suffered both at the hands of the press and at the whims of some less stable members of this site.

That is exactly how RTE contacted me, it was an intern trawling through the internet while the journo did fuck all. I was able to find the intern though.

"I make you wrong there my friend. Anything that appears on the internet can be reproduced, copied or transmitted as long as it is done in a fair way and is not slanderous, malicious or intended to harm."

Not true, in fact exactly the opposite. Nothing on the internet can be reproduced or copied unless the author specifically says it's okay. Nothing on the internet is Public domain unless it says so.

However a journalist can break copyright law if it is in the interest of the public. For example if a politican was using this site a journalist could claim in court that it was in the public interest that a politican who campaigns for porn censorship was using a site like this.

For me and you ordinary people, the judge will say the journalist had no right to copy your info or publish it. None of it was in the public interest.

Also fabswingers might own the copyrights of the photos on here, I am not sure. However liable and privacy laws kick in to make that point moot.

In ireland if the story can do you harm IT HAS TO BE IN PUBLIC INTEREST, or else it is slander. It does not matter if the story is 100% true and they have video. They can not run your idenity on irish tv without you getting a couple of hundred grand.

What is public or private on the internet matters little.

Or anyone in a profile job, or dealing with the public, in the justice system, a public face or.... there are many...not to mention with children.

Was it not 2 yrs ago a reporter got into Swingfield and took candid pics which went over the Sunday world and then the Internet. One single mother from England had her young son show her a photo of her in the act that someone sent to him on his phone.

So really many can loose a lot more than your what your comment suggests.

Not the first 'expose' - won't be the last.

Plenty of folks have had their profile photos used in the rags purporting to be 'newspapers' - with text from mails, chatroom and forum quoted verbatim - and nothing to prevent the ensuing carnage to personal and professional lives.

If you don't want to see it printed - don't put it online - anywhere. There is feck all anyone can do to get back their dignity and respect once it's carved up by toe-rags earning their crust from these 'exposes'.

And - it's not new that these vermin have well-verified profiles on ALL the adult sites, proving that they mix with regular folks in the lifestyle on a daily basis, with cameras being used at Meet-And-Greets and other parties of all types.
