A new initiative launched in Cork today for safer dating & first meets. It's on the irish examiner. Great idea, if your date isnt working out and you feel unsafe you just ask for Angela at the bar and they will get a staff member who knows what to.

Novel idea. Would like to see if it's works. What do you think? Would you ask for Angela?

Worked very well in Lancashire in the UK so no reason why it wouldn't here once hospitality staff are properly trained. If it saves women from assault or anything else its only a good thing.

It originated in America a long time ago and as usual, if it happens in the States, it eventually goes to the UK and then here. I think it’s a stupid idea for this country. I guarantee half the staff in pubs, clubs and restaurants won’t have a clue how to react to this. If a lady is out on a date and her date becomes abusive or she feels uneasy, she only needs to go to staff and tell them that she would like a male employee to accompany her to her car, to a taxi or whatever. It’s common sense really. It was supposed to be for people who were sitting in the company of a male or males in little booths in bars who couldn’t physically get past them and they would ask for a girls name. Certainly wasn’t Angela anyway. I listened to some Senator on the radio last week going on that she was asking Dublin City Council to adopt this measure and roll it out the administration area of DCC. Sweet Jesus, why doesn’t she spend a bit of time trying to get some legislative orders in place for stalking, sexual assaults and the like which would do more to make women feel safer.

My sister was in a pub last year sitting at the bar with two of her friends. A fella came over to them and wouldn’t leave them alone. She asked him politely to go away. Eventually she said it to the barman and he told him to go away and he did. Five minutes later he came back over and punched my sister three times in the face. Cops came and he was charged, still waiting for it to go to court but he got slapped that weekend. He got it a few months later and he’s due to get another kicking next time I come across him but saying to bar staff that you are uneasy doesn’t always work.
