For all the bad press about him and whilst he brings on a lot of it himself it was nice to see him honoured in New York for his work with the Crumlin childrens hospital. I didn't hear any media report on it unless I'm mistaken. I guess it wouldn't feed their narrative to report a positive story on him.

We Irish can be very unforgiving, and while the criticism towards his past behaviour is justified to some degree. The guy has had to adjust to life changing circumstances over a short period of time..

A lot of money went to the kids hospital in Crumlin.

I'm not saying his persona is something to be admired. He is commands incredible figures in the marketplace in which he works.

Most certainly some of the stuff he has brought on himself has been a disgrace and I can see why people have a certain viewpoint of him.

The point of the thread was in this particular instance much like the replies there to show how the media run with a preconceived narrative.

It doesn't excuse previous things he has done but there is altruistic side to him that is ignored in favour of hating his Bond villain alter ego.

Fairplay for raising the money. But the man is a clown of the highest order.

I commend you for being able to seperate the action from the opinion of which you hold the person. Not everyone has that ability .

He brought drug dealers into a gates community, He lets kids see him visit strippers and drive with one hand on the wheel, he speeds, he associates with known criminals, and he acts like the biggest bell end on the planet.

If he was really a nice guy, a paper in new york would have never heard he gave money to a local irish chairty, he obviously donated it and phoned them up right away to tell them.

There are rich sports stars out there who donate much more to charities all over the world. Ronaldo donated a million to kids on the other side of the planet, and apparantly thats just the tip of the iceberg with him giving away absolutley enormous sums of money, and we only ever find out by accident.

Was it a paper in New York awarded him ? I didn't realise who organised the awards to be honest.

I agree with you on the Ronaldo thing. He does to be fair donate incredible sums of money. I find some of his antics odious on the pitch but off it he really does seem to do an awful lot of good and kudos to him for that.

Ronaldo/McIlroy/Mourinho/Michael Jordan may donate millions and millions each year. That may well be true. None of them are under obligation to do so and neither is McGregor.

The fact is all of those charities benefit from the money raised througb such contributions.

I'm not as I implied vefore leading a McGregor cheerleading squad. Far from it just think it's nice he had contributed whatever he has to a really fantastic cause which is the kids hospital in Crumlin. I'm sure the hospital were more than happy about the donation they received and that's the main thing ultimately.

Sports & sport entertainment thrives completely on "heroes and villans " and nobody plays the role of villain better than Conor McGregor...

Fundamentally he seems like a nice guy, works hard, has time for fans and done a lot for charity... but $100m can accentuate the dark side of any person's personality if they're not prepared for that kind of windfall... and he's not

McGregor has now become a parody of the charactor he once "played" and seems to be heading down a dark path of drugs, yes men, acting gangster and trying to look flash that fighters like Mike Tyson and Roberto Duran have treaded on. If so, I feel sorry for the guy...
