It's presumably from the phrase "cock and bull story" as in total nonsense.

But ya never know

There is definitely no connection between cock and bull and cuck and bull other than the denotation of 'bull' and the phonic similarity of cuck and cock.

Cuckold is derived from cuckoo. Referencing the behaviour of the cuckoo laying its eggs in the nest of another bird.

The notion of the cock and bull story is rooted in the actual cock and bull inn near Banbury Cross. It was a well knowen lodging house for traveling sales men and peddlers. They would meet in the evening and tell each other talk tales of their exploits. Hence a cock and bull story came to be the term we used when we knew the tale we were being told by another was a little truth garnished with a lot of lies but told, nevertheless in an engaging and entertaining manner.

There is more wher that came from.
