If you don't have a TV license you could go to prison.

Where you can watch TV all day without needing a license.

Guy whispers in your ear "any extras". You tell him to get his own chewing gum.

Well if the Shawshank Redemption has taught me anything, prisons are not so bad as...

You get to see Rita Hayworth movies regularly...

You get served beer on your workplace roof...

And have some cool friends called Red...

So... DON"T PAY YOUR LICENCE

It's an even more enjoyable place if you're "fab straight".

Haven't paid for over 9yrs. Don't really watch Irish TV anyway. Licence is something like €170 a year and fine is up to a grand. Guess what? Even if fined, I still saved money

I honestly do think it should be taken from the tax on income though. Not an increased tax but paid for out of what we already hand over in tax.

a secluded seaside cottage, ballybunion,

and why should everyone that has an income have to pay even if they don't avail or have a tv , RTE already get subsidised millions from government , ( us taxpayers ) but even accepting another form of tax on something that not everyone either wants or agrees with is extortion , why do you think that RTE hasn't become pay per view ? because the privileged few and job's for the boys gang would not have their cushy lifestyles , ( most paid threw a company too ,to avoid tax on their over inflated wages and expenses) so its that very attitude that it should be taken from income is exactly the bend over and take it ,whether you want it or not , type of attitude that has us accepting it in the first place , and that’s even before i get started on the one sided government mouth piece propaganda machine that RTE is , or maybe i should of just said , i disagree with you that people should have to pay for the privilege of been programmed with their programs

I agree with some of what you say especially the paid propoganda and "predictive programming" that's been spouted out by ever television station for decades...

At least people are waking up and voting with their feet. I myself don't own a tv because I've the internet but am sure there's some little charge on the way for that. But you can't fool the people all the time or let's face it ...anymore

a secluded seaside cottage, ballybunion,

i agree there is something on the way , the internet tax maybe ,

but you see it in media all the time some fecken politician or senator proposing something or the other to slowly try and make everyone pay for something they don't want , like yourself , i dont own a tv

i haven't for over 12 years , i even invited the inspector in to have a look around one time , but over the years i have got sick of the call's and letters and even for some people in some cases the search warrant threat’s , they are desperate now , so something is brewing , so lets hope enough people wake up to it as for the OP , its not straight to prision , its a summons to first , where you request a gary doyl order on what proof they have that you own a tv , if you have admitted noting to them , the case is often struck out , if its off to jail if you have incriminated yourself and are found guilty and refuse the outlandish fine is a drive to jail for and hour in a waiting room and a bus fare home

I hate doing it but id rather pay the 13/14 euro a month than have the bullshit that goes with it. It gets up my back along with my bin charges. Those 2 stick in my gut.

The TV license is one that really gets on my tits ....

I've paid for my house that my TV is in (never mind the property charges ), I paid for my TV and I pay alot to sky for what I watch on it, I pay for Internet that I also use on my TV... And then still have to pay licence fees for the privilege, absolutely disgraceful and it will be coming in also that you have to pay for all devices in the household
