It depends how many changing partners I had. I always use condoms but because of unprotected oral sex I get checked too.

Usually around once a year.

Always 100% negative

Once every 3 months...its free here and get text message with results which is handy. I usually ask my meets sometime while chatting when was their last check and what was the result. Have had a few take the hump when asked, but then i take it that they arent too health conscious so see it as an added filter.

Some will argue different but in my mind yes, possibly more so given the % who say they have safe sex but don't practice it for oral sex.

I do it for free in clinics(run by hospitals) and they only give you results if there is something wrong... I never hear from there back, that means tests were OK

You’re talking about the NHS now though. It’s different in the south.

Shocking lack of availability for free STD checks here. I used to go to the one at St James but the opening hours are shocking. Used to have to queue in the morning for a ticket, just to be told to come back in the afternoon for the tests. Had to take a full day off work.

So I’m paying for them now.

If anyone is aware of a better free service in Dublun, let me know.

Btw my gynaecologist advised me that the chances, while still there, are lower to transmit STDs via oral sex. It’s not higher as someone wrote here.

I said it might be higher...but the reason for that is few take any concern with oral sex and by that I mean they'll not think twice about giving blow jobs or give oral to someone who might has std but would think twice of even having protected sex with them. Parties goers are id say the bigger risk with multiple swopping around through out the night. Hopethat clears up the reason why I said it. Of course bbarebacking with those who have std is a higher risk....but as its not the usual practice id still say oral would be the most common way of contracting std here. Its,actually not as uncommon as some make it out to be. Many take,a break for a few months and finish their antibiotics and return with a flurry or delete account and reappear later and no one is any wiser except those who were told and they keep it quiet for obvious reasons too.

Would people not confide in their doctor around their lifestyle? I'm not suggesting going in and discussing the orgy you just came from, but to have a frank conversation around sex, and regular testing as required, family doctor or not, its a hell of a lot more confidential than some of the above clinics and hospitals.

I rang my doctor's the first time I wanted checked and was told they don't do it (maybe they meant they don't do it free of charge) and given the number for Letterkenny. I've been checked twice this year and will probably look to go again in January, or sooner if I need to. The nurse last time told me that most infections they have found have been in the throat, which would be consistent with people using condoms for fucking but not for oral. I've also had a hepatitis jab, had to go three times for that, because they said that it can be passed by kissing an infected person.

The hospital in Letterkenny don't contact you back unless they've found something. Would personally prefer to have some kind of proof of clear results but I suppose that makes for higher admin costs.

Not all gps offer STD testing. Luckily my GP shares his clinic with a gynaecologist who does. And also, it’s not free via a GP.

The seating area at St James is a circle so you can look everyone in their face. I don’t mind, but as said their opening hours are shit so I pay for my tests now at my gynaecologist

l'm amazed at how few actually have had the hep vaccine. Its hard to get ATM as,world stocks are at an all time low. Southampton general hospital didn't have any in stock for over a month in September because of the shortage.

But having ur hep vaccine is a must for dabbers.

That's for the hepatitis A and B, theres no vaccine for the hep c, and that is as much if not more prevalent than HIV.

Just as a reminder while the condom is your best friend it's not 100% safe protection either. So even when you practise safe sex you should get tested.

Heard in radio this week that Aids is on the increase again too in Ireland. 10 new cases a week.

As they say in Hill Street, let's be careful out there folks.
