I think Sinn Fein are perhaps over valuing their reputation of intimidation. I've yet to understand how exactly Frances Fitzgerald has done anything wrong. Her private secretary received an email regarding the McCabe case which was already under judicial review and as such couldn't be commented on by the minister. Talk about damned if you do and damned if you don't.

The email was identified over a year ago by daly and wallace, that's on public record, her cause was not helped by not informing varadkar and leaving him hanging in the wind, she done nothing with the email, similarly with her time at the helm in the department of justice.

The frustrating bit about the whole issue is that with a re-election nobody will be held responsible - as usual - and the same incompetent people will be elected again.

That is a very good point, FG we’re to shake it up , it was there chance to represent the people but they turned out to be worse than FF ( if that’s possible ) !

I think fitzgerald will be walking the plank sooner or later, the assistant garda commissioner has said no action will be taken against the gardai over the breathelyser scandal, ross has been exposed for politicising the garda stations debacle. Hopefully there will be more scrutiny put on them, and the public vote accordingly.

Minister for Justice isn't an elected position. That's where Fitzgerald was when she received the email and actually it was her private secretary. An email outlining that the McCabe case was under judicial review. As it was under review, she could not act on it as it was already being acted on via our delightful legal system. Had she acted on it, she would have been sacked.

As for the potential election, I'm all for it, I didn't vote for Varadkar, nobody did but if he calls the election, I very well might change my mind and support him.

As for the dept of Justice, it's allegedly the most cut-throat place to work, perhaps a great place to send some of the forum trolls and see how they fair.

I'm looking forward to it all.

I think she will resign, FF and SF are playing politics with this. FF won't win a majority based on the polls, nor do I see them entering a coalition with SF after the FF ard-fheis. I think they're just trying to damage Varadkar (aka the Indian )

That said the British would have a shit-fit with Mary-lou as foreign minister.

None of the politicians in the executive are directly elected by the people, but they have to be in the Daíl.

No the frustrating thing is that we have a constantly resolving bunch of clowns, no stability and so much distraction from the actual job of running the country.

Democracy is an extremely wasteful process.

The issue I have with Frances Fitzgerald is that she told the Dáil that she found out that the Garda legal representative was going to use the false abuse accusations against McCabe at the same time as the rest of us find out. It turns out that that was not true and that she knew before they did it because of the email. You cannot expect to mislead the house on at least three separate occasions and just continue on as if nothing happened.

Shhhhh... Stop talking about it!

.

I've started watching Brendan Courtney's programme on rté recently. This crowded house I think is called. It's actually frightening. Granted it's not about the homeless crisis but higher up the ladder in the housing crisis. The frightening aspect is that he's meeting people, some of whom are earning reasonable wages, and they can barely afford or even find places to rent. Most of these people are paying such exorbitant rent that they haven't a hope of ever saving enough for a deposit or even qualifying for a mortgage. Ah but sure, it's not that bad compared to other countries. Don't talk about it so much or you'll put people off investing here.

If they don't exist then we are merely searching for utopia, and that doesn't exist either. Of course they exist. All they have to be is normal people like the rest of us. The problem is that we all have completely different views and ideas for fixing things. A good leader is a mish mash of all those who is capable of pulling all the different strands together to weave a tapestry that everyone can claim they are a part of.

Now who's fucking poetic?

Well Mary Lou will never be Taoiseach so no, she's not the answer on her own. She may be part of the answer though. I'm not her biggest fan as it happens. I'd prefer to see Pearse Doherty leading SF but he's not interested in leadership at the moment.

Well the PDs have come and gone (thank christ), the Greens and Labour still haven't recovered from being human shields for FF. PBP are a protest vote. The military campaign maybe over but SF are still fighting a cultural war this side of the border. There's no doubt that they have FF worried. I still see them as trying to all things to all (wo)men.

"Don’t need election polls say be same to parties back in government again "

Polls taken after the election is called may be different to beforehand. The electorate will surely be looking to punish someone. The current poll of polls since the last election suggests the three main parties will each increase in size. Voters could decide to punish either the opposition for bringing it all down or the government for not sorting out the mess. The homeless and housing crisis will presumably pay a part as well.

Probably say what about all opposition parties parties exactly? SF are the only ones on both sides of the border and having to present and market themselves differently. They are within an asses roar of getting into Govt in the Republic. They have raised their game massively in the Republic. This side of the border things are still a bit more entrenched and tribal. In some ways the Northern situation is holding them back.

The UK is in chaos right now, the brexit issue had serious implications for the all Ireland economy. I'm hoping that Fitzgerald resigns to avoid an election. The timing couldn't be any worse. Coveney has been more impressive than Flanagan was as FA minister and given the lack of Govt here, at least he has been seeing the all ireland picture.

Nothing will change.

Irish people are too afraid to take a hit in their pockets to do anything about it.

All of you know FF and FG are up to their necks in bailing out bankers, developers, and cops while leaving ordinary people to die homeless on the street, and bullying them to shut their mouths.

If you vote FF or FG then you know in your heart you're just picking either person A or person B to get the brown envelopes, and thats as far as your vote will ever go.

That was in reference to your comment about SF trying to be all things to all people.

As for Coveney, he's a cut above everyone else in that party as far as I'm concerned. He's also a more likeable character than Leo in my opinion.
