When it starts to impact on your job, financial impact, health, mental health. Not when the person is down and out try and educate on learning the signs and watch out for excessive drinking, I'm sure most of us knows someone in life with a drink problem . Neither of us drink excessively thankfully

I would think it depends on what and how much that person is drinking, for example if someone was sitting at home drinking say a bottle of vodka for that amount of time 3 days a week that's definately excessive..on the other hand if the person was going out 3 nights in the week and having a few drinks in that same amount of hours I would not think that was too much.

Depends how many units being drank in one day. If shes drinking 14 units in one day, then yes she definitely needs to cut down or stop drinking alcohol altogether. If shes drinking 14 units over the course of any given week, then its deemed to be safe.It depends on what type of drink too.One glass of wine can vary from one unit up as far as 3 units.

My ex is an alcoholic. He drank 24/7, he would have drink for breakfast! He was a functioning alcoholic for a long time. He never missed work or injured himself. Personally I think it depends on the person. I myself would have a few beers every evening. I don’t get d*unk. If someone is drinking to excess and getting d*unk more often then not then yes that is a problem.

14 units a week and theres 3 units approx in a pint of cider /strong lager. 4 and half pints on a weekly basis is the recommended safe amount.

I wouldn't know how many pints would be consumed over the 3 days. they're solid drinkers so id say a good few

I dont think anyone does in fairness. Theres a lot of confusion.as to what one " unit " is. Its weird that spirits like vodka etc match unit for unit as theyre measured, but lagers/ ciders and wines are much higher in units.

Mrs would have a glass or two of wine or a cider or two after work most evenings and moderately, if at all, during the weekends.

Where as Mr wouldn't touch a drop in the house during the week but when out with friends socializing would have his fair share, and then some.

We both don't think we have a problem but each think the other drinks too much???

Different people can handle different amounts of alcohol.

I think a big factor is how you behave after drink.

Some can be total twats after one drink while others can have ten and still be well behaved.

The amount matters very little in my experience, but the reasons why and the lack of self control do.

The difference between alcoholism and liking drinking is"compulsion".

You can be compelled to do something and hate every minute of it but still have to do it.

Imagine if they were attached to a wall with a dozen fishhooks through the skin on their back and a bottle of drink on the other side of the room. An alcoholic will tear the skin from their back to get the drink, not because it's rational or they even want to but because of compulsion.

Take the example back a few notches, can he/she not drink given the opportunity? Less likely to be an alcoholic.

Can lesser drinking still ruin professional and private relationships? Yes, of course

I'm feeling the onset of manflu after looking after sick child today. Been having hot whiskey with honey, lemon, ginger n garlic. Just checked and since around 9pm, half the bottle gone but I don't feel in any way tipsy or more. Is this bad?

As much as it pains me to tell you, a normal hot drink like herbal tea with cloves lemon and honey would do the same thing as a hot whiskey does. The only difference is whiskey is resistant to viruses but if you have a cold virus already, it wont work. All it does is make you sweat as your temperature would be already higher than normal so the body sweats naturally to cool it down. Forget garlic if youve already got a cold, garlic is more beneficial as a preventer rather than a cure.

Your body must be tolerant to spirits which is most likely why you didnt feel tipsy. Drinking a hot toddy should only have an eggcupful of whiskey with cloves lemon honey and topped with boiling water.

I told a young lad who used to be a fabber that he didnt have manflu or anything like it. So like i told him, ill tell you. Youve an Ecolda virus and not the Ebola virus. Wrap up, keep well..orange juice and zinc and youll be fine.

Lay off the whiskey or youll end up with dreaded " whiskey nose"
