There's one I see regularly on the roads around west Dublin and north Kildare delivering onto buildings sites. I spotted a lady driving an artic only last week but in all my years, I think they're the only two I've seen. There's a haulage company that's named "something and daughters, ltd". They might be worth a call!

For the most part the rate of pay stops any younger person bothering with it as a career, I hear companies are crying out for drivers!

Dublin to Westmeath

I'd say given that not a single woman has posted in here "yet" pretty much sums it up.

Pity they don't treat their drivers with respect. They carry thousands of Euro cargo Truck God knows the value and pay the driver a mean not much more than the minimum wage.

Prime Time due a special on haulage companies a few years ago. It turns out that a lot of haulage companies pay well less than the minimum wage.

Nothing has changed ...next time on the road just take time to look at the trucks..very few more than 5 years old and have all the bells and whistles on them.. your basic truck starts from about 110k yet no money to pay drivers

And that's why they can't get drivers ! A lot of companies only pay for time spent driving and if you're waiting for an hour or two to get loaded or unloaded then you're not paid for that !

On the other hand it's such a competitive industry with tight margins that one company can't afford to pay much better than another or they won't be able to compete for the work ! It's a viscous circle
