I was shopping in aldi today, and witnessed an awful thing,I was in line at the checkout and in front of me was a polish manager with a small shopping trolly a clipboard in his hand and some item's on the belt, the cashier then started to serve him, first saying hi sir how are you, would you mind just putting your trolley here for health and safety reasons, first item he had was a plastic bag scanned it and then scanned rest of items, all came to seven euro twelve cents, but could not have been more then three euro for the item's he had,the manager then said are you sure, thats right the poor guy on the till was shaking with fear, and started to check out the problem, the manager then proceeded to try tell him you have made a mistake, the poor guy could not find the mistake, then the manager started to point out what went wrong and both of them got confused, then the manager said you have failed, you never checked my plastic bag I purchised,he had snook an item into it,all of this took about ten mins before I got served,I was pissed off having to wait, little did I know this was a test for the staff,as the manager said in front of all the customers you have failed your test, this guy on the till has been working there for about two years when he served me after this he was so down and sad looking,he said nothing to me just flung my items at me,I think it's so wrong to do this and put a staff member under pressure like this, plus having a manager say you failed in front of customers,I will never shop there again.

Supermarkets are a pet hate of mine in the first place. I'd have said something to the manager long before. Especially because he felt it was fine to waist my time. While he fannied around with his test.

That manager was an asshole. He was the one who badly failed and I'm pretty sure it's not in line with Aldi's philosophy how he treated the shop assistant in front of customers and letting customers wait. Some people can't help themselves, you give them a little bit of power and it goes to their heads.

That's lousy, I met few grump managers in Aldi in my day, but that takes the biscuit, could have been handled more discreet fully at least, but not embarrass him like that,

I worked security in some of the Aldi stores and this is the type of training that they do. But it's normally done at a quiet time of the day either just opening or just before closing. There is no need to do that to anyone working there it's just wrong.

As you said it took about 10 minutes I don't think the rest of the customers in the line will be back either tbh..Bad form by the manager at least he should have told him there was a spot check coming up soon...

I heard they treat their staff horrible. All the top staff are polish and are very ignorant. I would not shop there now .

Whilst it was unpleasant and incorrect for the till attendant to flig the items at you, what the manager done was a lot worse and created the whole problem!

Had the manager a small bit of respect for his staff and not humiliated him in front of everyone I am confident your bag wouldn't have been flung at you!

Sadly you were on the end of the backlash but that manager is a proper asshole!!

Although my experiences there have all been good, it's pathetic that there's Managers who carry on like this. Yes, of course you have to check to make sure people are doing their job, but have a bit of social tact...

Report the Managers ass.

However, the employee should have been professional and checked out your shopping. Simple rule: no matter what you do on life, show some class and enthusiasm

Worked in retail/service for much of my 20's and yeah, this kind of thing is fairly standard unfortunately. Aldi and Lidl are far from the worst of them, generally speaking. Not that that makes it right, and you should definitely make a complaint to the head office if you think it's warranted because they do tend to pay attention to that kind of thing.

Not sure what his being Polish has to do with it though My managers were usually Irish. Being a cunt transcends geographical boundaries.

I think it shows ignorance when people point out someones nationality when trying to talk about a singular bad situation. That is how hate towards minorities is being build and bad stereotypes are created.

That awful manager should be reported to the corporate. Obviously he is not a good people manager and just an asshole.
