A backup in case of a no show

So you commit your time and money to a meet in a nice hotel. As the reality suggests, it may turn into a no show. A question for the lads and ladies.... Would you also organise a second meet in case the first didn't show up? And, would you tell the seconder that they are the back up so you might cancel if the first one turns up?

The simplest way id believe is if you want to meet someone, arrange a public coffee meet or just a general public meet.... that way if the meet went ahead then arrange something like hotel ect, if they are a no show you havent really put yourself out of pocket.

Sure why not tell the first, as well and have them both cancel on you.

Would you feel bad if you were asked to be the backup?

Even doing so. If all goes well with the coffee meet and arranging a hotel is the next step, get half the cost of the hotel.

I don't think many couples or ladies would appreciate being your second choice.

I did have 2 cancelations recently but would never double book myself for same time...

I am sure most females or couples wouldn't want to play second fiddle and be waiting around on a guy.

Who wants to play the second fiddle? It's a big NO, just out of respect for (potential) play partners and basic manners. You can't expect anyone to be stand by/on call.

But what you can do is line them time wise up one after the other (ie afternoon, evening, morning).

But suppose the first one is so good you don't want them to leave?

It's a question of fine tuning the line up. It's a bit like fireworks choreography.

Or find people who are amenable to impromptu group play

3 seconds in the morning, 3 seconds in the afternoon and 3 seconds in the evening, what do you do in-between?

Methinks you need to fit more in. What about elevenses, lunchtime, and that all important 3am slot.

Feel bad? I wouldn't entertain it at all....imagine waiting, waiting, wondering if number 1 has shown up or not?

But what about the 2nd person if they have put time and effort into getting ready to meet you and the 1st person shows up.Then you would be the no show. I would find insulting to be only the backup

Can't but feel like a substitute on a division 4 football team that's about to be relegated who probably won't get his game...

Do you get a participation medal? or a veri to say how much of a great "stand by guy" you are. Seriously, what self respecting guy wants to be the b-side or the "just in case" man?

Self respect lads..

Have no need for a back. Any of my meets where spot on and open. There was never a question about them turning up. Had great craic and banter before the meet up
