Hi there,

Just wondering has anyone decided to give up drinking and what their experience has been like.

I am thinking very very strongly about giving it up. It is not because I have anything against it. Getting out and socializing is very important. But for me the hangovers are becoming an issue. And yes I do realise you can stil go out and socialise without drinking but it is harder as we all know in this country.

Not the normal sickness etc but bringing my mood down to the ground for days. Affecting sleep patterns which makes recovery even longer. As I am 'pushing 40', maybe it is time time to see can I go without. I am not a big drinker but would be have 'big' nights out 2 times a month approx. The nights out have fallen as the hangovers have gotten worse.

Just looking for peoples opinions and experiences.

I gave up drinking a few years ago best thing iv ever done doesnt cost me much for a night out. I dont get massive hangovers i know how i got home. I wake up with more money its noting but all good stuff since i quit drinking. Though it was hard at the start im a man who liked a pint watching a match or simply just hanging with the lads, but after a while it got easier on me and now im well able too go on a nite out without it. Even going too a few swingers partys an im really enjoying it alot more than i ever did but thats just me. As for jen well she never drank anyway..

I used to drin a lot in my late teens and early 20s but it all came to a very abrupt halt when my children came along. For the last 20 years or so I've mostly not had a drink on nights out, might sometimes have a glass or two of wine at home, but I don't like feeling d*unk and I don't like the tiredness I feel the next day, so I mostly don't drink alcohol. It's never hindered me or stopped me having a good night. I've never really found alcohol to be of much benefit to me at all, regarding enjoyment or fun on a night out.

I'm practically a non drinker at this stage..used to go on lash 4 or 5 nights in the week but due to a combination of migraines work and the increasing hangovers I rarely drink anymore.

Downside for me is definitely a lot more shy and quiet without the few pints on nights out without it

Also practically a non drinker. Used to drink like a fish. Getting pregnant made me sit back and revaluate how and why I drank. It was a total eye opener.

I've been tipsy 2 or 3 times in the last 3 years.

Also have no problem socialising without drink and will not drink if I'm meeting anyone from here Peoples reactions amaze me though

"Are you not Irish??" is the most annoying one. Or asking if I'm ill or pregnant

Good luck with whatever you choose to do OP. Only you know your body and mind and their limits x

I didn't have to give up, I just had to learn my limits.

When I've had enough I stop, and just keep enjoying myself.

I gave it up a few months ago as it was affecting my sleep and my mood the next day, even one or two glasses of vino.

I have lost weight, feel better, more energetic and much more motivated.

I did have a glass on holidays but tbh while I enjoyed it at the time I didn't feel great after. So back to non drinking for me.

Go for it.. what have you to loose.

Don't give up man. Persevere. Alcohol brings it's own rewards.

You're More Confident

Better Dancer

Stronger

Way better at whispering

Brilliant at chatting up Women

All women are way more attractive

Our problem as a society is that we tend to give up when something gets hard! America wouldn't exist if Columbus decided half way through 'ah this is too hard, fuck it, I'm going home'

Buddy of mine did Allen Carr easy way to stop drinking.

He stopped for 1year.

Turned in to a complete anti social. Your choice

Thanks for the post dubguy.

So you think people turn anti social if they choose to not drink.

Maybe your friend found other things to do that didn't involve drink?

Some of my best nights out were free of alcohol. Would arrive a little late, drink alcohol free beer, then few moves on the dance floor so no one said or noticed anything. Big bonus is you get to see everything plus you're the guy with the car at 3am so can work in your favour

You can be just as social without drink as you can with it.

It just takes a little confidence in yourself.

I'm a social occasion only drinker. No urge to drink in the house really or during the week unless I'm at an event or something.

He definitely did something, what cant say, but he was back in a year. Now when I say alcohol I don't mean getting d*unk to the state of don't remember what I did last night. Social drinker.

Personally I like the taste of alcohols but not the side effects of getting dunk or tipsy. Now tried all nonealcoholic options just don't taste the same.
