This has probably been asked before but , is it possible to tell where someone has taken a selfie as in location using their android phone? Thanks

Yes. Location, time, date, camera and settings are all encoded in pictures. There are lots free websites that will decode this meta data for you.

This assumes you have the original photo as many sites and apps remove this data

Even if the EXIF data is unavailable it it often still there but hidden. Most social media sites simply replace this data by "teranslating" it to symbols that are not commonly read by standard software as it's much less bandwidth intensive than avtively copying and replacing the image. In 90% of cases an image taken on a smartphone still has the location settings locked away inside (if they were there when the image was first taken). I do data recovery

as above,

geo tagging is the term for it and it can be turned on or off in your phones settings before you take a pic.

could also be that the op is being stalked.

or, look at it as making others who read the thread aware that it can be done and if they are unsure about it to make sure to turn off location data in their phone settings.

This. That can be one problem with sending photos via kik or whatsapp, none of that is removed. A Tip which can help is have your gps location switched off when you take a photo.
