Post modern jukebox channel on YouTube. Some amazing covers done there. Loved the New Orleans style Sweet Child O Mine.

There's a great Radiohead cover of Creep featuring Haley Rinehart. Great channel if you love vintage/rhythm n blues.

Speaking of Sweet child of mine... Who sings the version of it that's used in the UTV road safety ad? It's beautifully haunting.

Hmm, tough one. A great song is hard to cover. The first one that always comes to mind when this topic comes up is Jimi Hendrix, "All Along the Watch Tower".

Another great one is The Animals, "House of the Rising Sun".

Also, my old band used to finish our set with a cover of The Gun Club, "For the Love of Ivy". It was epic if I do say so myself .

I keep meaning to try Shazam on it but it never lasts long enough. I'm not sure if it's running anymore either. I tried giggle but didn't get an answer. Beautiful version.

The definitive versions of many Bob Dylan songs are covers - Hendrix's Along the Watchtower, GnR Knocking on Heaven's Door, The Byrds' Mr Tambourine Man or My Back Pages and The Rolling Stones Like a (ahem) Rolling Stone.

Metallica did a great version of Bob Seeger's Turn the Page but their version of Whiskey in The Jar lacks all the charm and fun of the original, IMHO.

The truth? Wha?

The bould Jeff was probably running out of time. His version is just shy of seven minutes long. Sure you'd need planning permission if you were to add another ten verses onto that!

"Jeff Buckley and Hallelujah. It's so superior to Leonard Cohen's own version that it's frightening!

A good version, but he dropped about 10 verses. Buckley did a cover of the Cale version. Cohen sang the truth.

Columbia records cut the song down to accommodate it on Cohen's "Various Positions" album in 1984.

John Cale heard Cohen sing the full version live and asked Cohen if he could cover it. Cale cut it down to suit himself, and Buckley did the same. Bucklys version is accepted because of his uncooked Fender Stratocaster and the tone strength produced by it.

Cohen put his heart and soul into the song. It's the lyrics that make it and the interpretation by the listener. Cale and Buckley couldn't replicate that.

As for the planning permission, sure it was in the day of the brown envelope.

The truth? Wha?

The bould Jeff was probably running out of time. His version is just shy of seven minutes long. Sure you'd need planning permission if you were to add another ten verses onto that! "
