Just lately, we've got mail asking "what are you upto now". Why would you ask someone that if they are online. Surely that should answer their question.

Not the worst conversation starter in the world. Better then "hi, how are u?". And given the nature of this site asking someone what's their take on the current political situation in the middle east probably wouldn't be that popular either.

Just because you're online doesn't mean being on here is the ONLY thing you're doing. You could also be cleaning the toilet, making dinner, taking a shit, buying toothpaste. You could be doing literally a million other things as well as being on here. It's a valid question
