The big D

Got your attention?? Lol Sorry to disappoint all your naughty minds but it's about Bar Jobs I'm looking to find out about.

Iv always had jobs were im dealing with caring for ppl, whether is elderly or vulnerable but after some recent family bereavements I feel like I need to take a break from this intensely mentally consuming work & just do something light. A few friends mentioned bar work as I'm a social chatty person, of course Iv no experience but I'd be willing to train up free or for reduced wage.

My only concern & from what other ppl say is that it's a very tiring & unsocial job because of the hours, late nights and does mess up the body clock. What do you guys think? Any of you work in the trade to either recommend or warn against the industry? It'll be a big change so most of my mates think I'm silly to want to do this job as it's totally different from what iv been doing so far but I need this mentally so just want any advice from non-friends.

I was a bar man from the age of 16 to 22 fulltime then parttime from 22 to 26. It was great at the start but after a while it got so depressing. Very long hours 10:30am until 2am the following morning. Every day start becoming like deja vu. D*unk people long hours smell of stall drink . Honestly I'd be more happy working 9 to 5 stacking selves than been a barman again. Plus if u do it part time they will only ever need you weekends. It's no life. Trust me if u can stay away from it please do. Xx

Mr69: did it years ago in England, absolutely loved it. Mates used to go out elsewhere then come back to my bar late on, we'd either have a lock-in or they'd help me close up and we'd hit town. As much food as you could eat, didn't pay for drinks, and as a bonus there was a recording studio nearby and we had a few mediocre musicians drop in but I was young & thought it was boss.

Not here though, you're professionals.

in da sticks, london, amsterdam, madrid

Bar tendering is after all a care taking trade. Can be loads if fun but is draining at the same time . Loads if guests sitting on the bar off loading their emotional luggage, matrimonial challenges , work grief . If you are into social studies ....this is the place to be. You can also collect comprehensive information for the local Wikileaks ...

It's a different drain then dealing with the dick and the dying as I understand you are in the health care. So to some extend you may even create in a B job clients for your current industry

Like all professions if performed with passion I am sure you can have a lot of fun and surely the day will come you want to move on but till that time just enjoy it fir the change

Nice images in your shop window by the way

I have spent a lifetime behind the bar...the main thing is when everyone else is having a good time..you are working and when you want a good time..everyone else is at home.
