Contraceptive Advice?

I always use condoms as my contraceptive but have been trying to get a cap/diaphragm as a secondary barrier method and can't seem to get one.

Doctor and Sexual Health clinic both suggested woman's centre, who in turn suggested going to Gum clinic who don't do them either.

If have had many versions of the pill, nuvaring and injection, all unsuccessful and turned me into a crazed emotional wreak ready to stab anyone who came near me.

Have any ladies tried the diaphragm or if any men who's partners have and how they got on with them and where they got it?

I did a few years back and found them finicky and difficult to use. Newer versions might be better. Try Caya with the spermicide gel. Both are available on amazon. Or maybe look into having the mirena coil fitted. Im on my second coil and never once had any issues with it.

You could ask your own Gp for the implanon which is fitted under the skin in your arm or the patch which you wear for 3 weeks and leave off for the 4th week every month. I know a few friends who have had issues with the coil

Had the implanon great in ur arm for 3 yrs mirena last 5yrs both work the same . Suits sum doesnt wit others trial and error . Best luck either way

Trying to stay away from anything with hormones and the doctor won't fit the one without hormones as I've not had any kids

They don't make it easy!

I'll try amazon see how I get on, going to the U.K. Next month so trying the family planning clinic there

Had an awful experience with the injection waiting for it to come out of my system, I have visions of me ripping it out of my arm if it doesn't agree!

I got pregnant using diaphragm and condoms...mirena didn't agree with me but 100% successfully for 3 years, no period either!

I had mirena fitted at xmas after excessive bleeding with implanon .. im like a new person .. no psychotic moments , no pmt and no bleeding ..its been a game changer for me

Just want to add that I had the mirena after my second child was born 9 years ago and it actually made me psychotic. Now I'm not sure if I had post natal depression already and it just made it worse or whether it just didnt agree with me. I had it taken out after 3 months and I was fine then.

I'm contemplating it again at the moment but worried it might have the same effect on me. Just something to note if you're considering it.

What works for some women don't always works for others. I've know many women that after a yr they had the mirena taking out. A family member has her tubes tied as her periods was terrible and decided no more children she wanted....is now back seeing her gynaecologist as her periods are worse than ever and he suggested putting mirena back in!!!

There's only one effective contraception besides condoms that doesn't include hormones, the copper coil. Some will tell you you can't have it because you didn't give birth yet, seemingly that's outdated perspective, maybe check out another gyno. The biggest common drawback of the copper coil it can make your period worse.

The Mirena, which is a hormonal coil does the opposite it reduces your periods or cuts them even out. I've a Mirena and it's a bit of an up and down as it can involve smear/spot bleeding and being much more susceptible to yeast infections/BV.

I heard that too. GP's are saying its a myth to be refused a coil if youve not had children. My friends daughter, whos 22 had the ParaGard copper coil inserted. She was crampy with heavy periods for 5 months after insertion and now she has little or no bleeding. She had to have a repeat visit to her GP, a month after to make sure it hadnt moved or dislodged. She checks herself to make sure she can feel the copper wires every few weeks and says she often forgets its there.
