reading last couple of days at the murder of a 90 yo man in county waterford. man was arrested and appeared in court today. if just brought to mind how sick twisted and mentally deranged you must be to murder a defenseless person of that age. you will probably also find that he will get very lenient jail time. anyway rant over and RIP to that poor man.

Totally agree with you.

Was another case a few years back, where a blind shop/bar owner was attacked for takings.

As a potential soft target there was an unwritten rule amongst the Deise criminal fraternity he was a no go area.

When news broke of his attack word went out from the said fraternity that whoever was responsible wasn't at local garda prompt he'd be in the Suir.

He was at Garda first thing in morning.

Luckily we're one of the countries that have abolished the death penalty as it is barbaric.

Most Western countries don't have automatic 'rest of your life' sentences for murder.

There are three things in that which bother me.

He's guilty of murder before you've heard any evidence.

He's not actually guilty but insane.

He won't get a long enough sentence, whether he's innocent or guilty.

I sincerely hope you never ever get called for jury duty.

you don't need any evidence. read the story online plus the man in question lives pretty near me. he's going to jail Michael whether you want to believe it or not and I'd call anyone insane who attacks and murders a defenseless 90 yo man

You see, you're completely missing my point. There's probably no point in explaining it but reading stuff online doesn't constitute evidence. Also, if you can point out for me where I expressed an opinion on whether he's going to jail or not I'd be grateful. Btw, in your very first post above you said that he's both guilty and not guilty.

see sometimes Michael you don't have to wait for an actually sentencing to know somebody is guilty and going to jail. it's like the case of Joe o reilly years ago who was sentenced for murdering his wife. you knew very quickly the man was guilty as sin. where did I say he's both guilty and not guilty?

You suggested he was mentally deranged. You can't be guilty if you are mentally deranged. Anyway, I'm out of this one. I will genuinely pray that you never get called for jury duty with an attitude like yours.

mentally deranged is a figure of speech meaning you must be sick to do that to a defenseless 90 yo man. I have been called for jury duty before and I'm sure I will again In the future.

ps. for anyone ever called for jury duty, do your utmost to get out of it. if your on a case that lasts a while, your In there all day every day and will drive u nuts

Oh I know exactly what your saying but see your not reading what I'm saying. this case is close to me (locally) and I know the chap is guilty. I don't need to wait for a court hearing and the words said out "I hear by sentence you to...". as I already said if it was your family member would you say the same thing?

Hypothetically.... with unrefutable proof of guilt, what is a fair sentence folks?

I tend to agree with 30 years plus to life for life depending on how sinister or cruel it was
