I've always had at least a bit of stubble. Hate the feeling of a clean shave. But because I've only ever clean shaved about 5 times in my whole life my stubble is quite soft. It never had the chance to grow thick and harsh.

I only trim my beard every month or so when I cut my hair and I've always had a shaved head. Kill two birds with one stone ya know
