What does everyone think of the fiasco in the last week?

That poor man....all the politicians can do is blame one another.

What a fiasco.

It's a pity an external criminal investigation isn't started. Brave man.

If his good name was tarnished to discredit him it is shameful. The question is would it surprise us if it was?

If the law was upheld in the 1st place none of this would have happened.

It's absolutely frightening, shocking and scandalous. It shows how rotten and corrupt to the core the Irish institutions are. As usual no one will be held responsible, no one will be sacked and everyone will get their fat pensions.

I don't believe Ireland is really more corrupt than anywhere else. Human nature, unfortunately.

You really think the replacement would be any different? And let's face it, the whole thing started with people using "pull" to avoid penalties for driving offences, how many people could honestly say they wouldn't use connections or social status in the same way?

Well in this particular instance, it seems Gardai and Tusla were willing to not only destroy a man's name with false allegations, but also divert resources away from protecting real vulnerable children, so no, the taxpayer is not the only one to suffer.

There's also the issue of damaging public confidence in those entrusted with protecting our rights and safety and enforcing the law, not to mention the morale of those Gardai who are doing their job properly.
