Who saw the car crash that is the late late on Friday.

I'm no prude but nobody needs to be subjected to the goings on that we saw.

As for the gays.....they just power the tone yet again.....all too crass for me.

Watched it for about ten minutes then turned it off. Total crap. Cheap for R.T.E. to make but no value for the tv license payers.

We get that Al porter is funny but does he really have to make a living out of promoting the fact he is gay....then another contributor at the end on about giving bjs in nightclubs.....we don't need to know this....not sure who he was but he was on the panel to give advice on sex!!!

He has as much right to give advice about sex as anyone else...and I'm sure there's more than a few on here who have given blow jobs in nightclubs....

Funny? I don't think I've seen a more unfunny comedian, and that's saying a lot considering some of the Irish 'comedians' out there. If he wasn't gay, nobody would give him the time of day

Thus the reason I stream everything, you don't even need a TV.

There are plenty of large monitors that will deliver better quality than a TV and when the TV license person calls they cant say squat as its not a TV.

A quick search showed me you can get a 52" LCD Full HD monitor for under €600

You can even get a 40" 4K monitor for just over €600 when you include shipping,

The age of TV is over.

Fairly sure if it is not already in place then it is coming in soon that any form or monitor, laptop, tablet forms the bases of a tv licence now?

I had heard a few years ago that they were thinking of a "multimedia license" but they are taking their time.

and what if I don't want to stream anything rte related, why should I have to contribute to the shite they put on?

Yeah, the so called "broadcasting licence"

load of bollocks. they're afraid to call it what it actually is: a stealth tax on the internet. they know most people are cutting the cord and going online for their entertainment and they're missing out on revenue. We're already taxed on our internet service, and it's called V.A.T.

Most people already know the loopholes out of the TV licence scam and this is their way of scamming us again. Don't fall for it.

What's worse is they're subtle with conditioning us to accept this new charge. A while back RTE ran an ad promoting the TV licence and how RTE provides such a great service, and we see plenty of talking heads spouting on about how they love to watch the RTE on their phone, laptop etc....but what was missing from an ad about the TV licence? that's right....a TV.

I won't accept the broadcasting charge, the same way I wont accept the TV licence.

If you want RTE, then my all means pay for it. through a subscription based model. Those who don't, let us opt out. Don't force me to pay for a service I don't want.

which is utterly fucking stupid.

"we're taxing you because you might decide to use the service on some device, sometime in the future."

Spare me. A subscription based model is fairer, but they know well they can't use it cos no one wants to pay for parochial shite.

Yep. It's like if I had a website which I charged money to view, but everyone has to pay the fee because everyone has a device that can access it. Doesn't that sound absurd? Wouldn't you tell me to fuck off? Well, that's exactly what RTE are doing.

Isn't the whole idea of a TV license to cover the cost of the station and NOT run ads.

"Ehh.....Home and Away!!"

God, don't remind me of having Home and Away on the TV when I was eating dinner as a child,

RTE can't even use the TV license to buy up to date movies and series.

All those re-runs would drive you mad.

It's always miles behind

If you pay the likes of Marianne Finucan, Joe Duffy, Miriam O'Callaghan ridiculous salaries for what they doing you need additional funds.

True...that and the news which I've read on facbook or somewhere else earlier....a hundred grand or near a day on adverts from or whatever over their stations is still enough to pay the big heads....still money laundering somewhere there....primetime should investigate it.
