Has social networking out passed us and has it taken control of our lives to point that we dont communicate properly or do we still have some degree of control. Does it affect how we speak to others. Whats your thoughts on it

Hate it with a passion

Its dumbing people down,

We laugh at couples out n about in restaurants or pubs, either 1 or both of them are on their phones,

It affects conversation between people bigtime!!

Interesting thread

The book of face is the work of the devil himself. . People feel blessed to be eating lunch with their sister/brother/best friend.. but they're too busy uploading pics on the book of face to even notice the company theyre in!

Then theres requests for virtual trees ,bushes, gates, farm machinery, farmhouses etc. Ask my fuckkk! Lives for bubbles and lives for squiggles? Really???

No fab is enough of escapism for me. I dont need mushbook to approve of my life. Im quite happy with it already thank you

I meet different people every day/night at work and have banter a laugh and enjoy it, most people in person enjoy a good conversation, sometimes you meet some folks with there phones stuck in there faces, i think social media is an addiction to some people like said above is the devil of all face to face communication, but me personally i like a good chat face to face, social media/fab is just another thing to pass my time and im the same as i talk on here as i talk face to face with somone

I think it has OP.

Imo it's ruining the art of conversation and has contributed to basic decent manners going out the window.

Walk by a cafe any time of the day and you will see couples/groups sitting in silence with faces stuck to their device, Chatting to "others"!

Rewind a few years, imagine the same group, chatting, laughing, debating, .....

Basic interaction!!

I'm on fab a few years now and this medium is almost too much! but thankfully because of its purpose it is never used in company or to replace company.

I used to laugh at my parents when they came out with the old chestnut

"things were better in the old days"

I'm not laughing now!

Galway

Went to a friends birthday party in town last night and a girl at the bar took at least 30 photos of herself all in the same pose, uploaded every photo and all this while the barstaff were trying to 1 serve her 2 give her her order and 3 get paid for her order, she was totally oblivious to the barstaff when she had the phone in her hands, this in itself would not be too bad if I wasn't bloody behind her in the queue.

I think social networking (mostly Facebook) has taken over a lot of people's lives, in that everything they do, every thought in their head, every bite they eat is broadcast to the masses. For that alone, I'm not a huge fan, and only ever dip in and out to keep up with family who live away from home.

I do however think that chatting and socialising online has a certain value. I've been doing it for about eight years, and have made some very close friends in that time, that I wouldn't have ever met otherwise.

Due to things that are out of my control, I spend a lot of time at home, and if it weren't for some of these online conversations, I'd have very little interaction outside of family.

It's obviously not a replacement for actual, in person meeting and socialising, but I do think it has its place. It's certainly helped me through some dark times.

Social networking sites and media now play a major part in our lives because everything is now streamed posted or what not on it. Even to buy the grocery online. Like hello is it not better to just go in and actually engage in what you are buying. Is it not better to say hello to someone you meet on the street and chat to tm instead of walking pass and not even see them because your eyes are so burnt out from looking into the phone. We actually dont see the impact of it upon our lives. Im even guilty of having done it. We share every single detail of what we do to the world yet i bet if you talked to them they might not be able to hold a conversation at all. God be with the days before the platforms of social networking came along because people actually talked. Yesterday i sat at a fountain and was enjoying a cuppa in the open air around me. I lookedover to a coffee shop and a couple was chatting away no phones (yeppie) lol next to them a lady was taking pics while her friend watched. Like hello is it that bad that one needs to share what they are eating. Social networking has changed us as a human so much. Our interaction with each other is almost defined by it. We are losing of basic skills of communication with each other.

Yes some people over indulge but in fairness I have met a lot of class people from here and I had the options of who I'd like to meet. If you have the right balance of personal meets/social networking it can work just fine.

It does have advantages but also disadvantages. Its great to keep up with loved ones who are away. But it also takes us away from being a family or being social too to a certain point. We actually do not use it properly. We place to m6ch importance upon it.

It makes everyone think and talk the same. It's a government's dream and a marketers's dream. It definitely can be used to swing opinion... US election, brexit and equality referendum being cases in point

Look how much quicker Americanisms get adopted into parlance here, how everyone dresses the same to a greater or lesser degree and so forth
