When you are awake but can't move your body, usually happens towards morning for a few minutes, its awful" I've had that happen quite often and it's horrible. I don't think I'm actually awake when it happens, I think I'm just dreaming I'm awake. I usually feel someone on my bed, and then I feel them right up beside my face, sometimes they whisper something I can't quite hear. It's scary stuff, but not really real. I hope

"I sometimes get what's known as 'sleep paralysis'. I tend to get after I've had a big weekend session. It's when you wake up, are conscious, but you're still dreaming. You're awake but your body is in sleep mode so you can't move or speak. As far as your mind is concerned, you are really experiencing the nightmare. I have waken up to the room on fire but I couldn't move or scream for help. Another night I woke up to a group of grey aliens surrounding me. Again I couldn't move or scream. It's truly terrifying but usually I can get myself out of it after a few seconds. It has been suggested that this condition is responsible for 'alien abduction' stories or people claiming to see demons. Luckily I very rarely experience it any more. While terrifying, I find it so interesting." Went through a phase of this a few years back...happened quite often and scared the shit out of me each time. Happened a few months ago for the first time in ages

"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but nightmares are down to food thats eaten late at night usually! . Myself personally?eating cheese late at night sets off nightmares with me. Recurring nightmares however are down to trauma. Emotional trauma, anxiety, poor nutrition and diet are just a few that i can call out here. Depression, anxiety, stress and sleep disorders can also cause nightmares and you should seek your GP's advice. Recurring nightmares involves the REM of sleep.. ( Rapid Eye Movement)where the brain processes thoughts or doubts in the mind , quicker than what is considered normal. So guys n girls, if this is a recurring issue with you, dont feel like you have to hide it. Talk to your GP.. it might only mean you need to adjust your diet and activity levels, but never feel youre on your own xx " It really only happens to me if I have a few days on the beer. That first night after a weekend session is horrible. I just put it down to the DTs, or an intense dose of 'the fear' Other than that I'm fine. Oh, and I'm not saying you're wrong, but Stephen Fry said on QI that the cheese thing is a myth It's hard not to trust that guy
