Forget about a paradox and let's assume you would have no altering affects on future events.

Where and when would you visit?

Or what events would you like to see take place?

List as many as you want.

I have loads but a few that come to mind straight away are: going to the Grassy Knoll and see it there was anyone actually there shooting JFK.

The ranch outside Roswell where the alleged UFO crashed. I don't believe it was actually a UFO but I'd like to know for sure

I always had a fascination with the Wild West and would love to stroll around one of those towns.

Also I watched 'Dazed and Confused' last night and there's something so appealing to me about small town America in the mid 70's. Especially if the Zep are coming to town .

I'd travel back to last week and solve the mystery of who blocked the toilet!

But seriously for me, probably see live music as we'll. The Beatles or Elvis in their early days

I'd travel back to watch The Rat Pack play live somewhere.

I'd love to go back to a time when my grandad was alive, just to see what he was like, hear him speak etc.

While certain era's in history are fascinating...Music is standing out, to be there live for so many of the great visionaries we have lost over the year's that have influenced so many of us.

I'd go back to just before my parents died, so that I'd be there with them this time. It still kills me that they left before I got there, even though I know that's how it was meant to be.

Kaizer would go back to the year 0 minus 9 months and video Mary and her so called "I.C"

Then the Manbeast would hit the high seas and become a pirate for a year or two before heading to the grassy knoll with GP

Oh and a moon landing would be nice

We would love to take a dive in a Roman bath and enjoy the decadence of a patrician lifestyle. Next station would be medievally time prior to the manifestation of the Roman Catholic Church , thus 11th century. Another short trip at Louis XIV court and maybe the wild 20th if the 20th century

Was one of the greatest days of my life. After being very badly hurt by an ex i gave up on any hopes of women. On the night i was feeling sick with a bad cold and only went into the pub for a hot one before heading home.

Then i met her and my life changed forever. Such beautiful eyes a wonderful smile and so so nice. 17 years later im married to my soulmate and we have a wonderful daughter.

Life is good

I know one of our stops would be Christmas in Jerusalem a few thousand years hence so we can put an end to all the nonsense. Then probably the Triassic to see some Dinosaurs, followed by a trip to victorian London.

To be fair my original post didn't mean to go back and change anything. I did say that events wouldn't be altered. It was more a question of what historical events would you liked to have seen take place.

Surely there's one you'd like to have witnessed

Yeah, the birth of Jesus would be a good one, but I think I'd rather be there when Mary told Joseph that she's pregnant and that a ghost is the father. Now that would have been an interesting conversation

Yeah I understood the question but answered it in the only way I can.

If one can only go back and observe without the ability to change things then what would be the point... it would be no different to watching an old movie or remembering some event almost like groundhog day...

Those here who picked events to go back to often picked something personal to them. Going back and repeating that experience under your premise could never change it...and sometimes age distance and experience change our perception of past events... Maybe for the better ..who knows that's something only each person can answer.

Einstein said repeating the same thing and expecting different outcomes is insanity. Visiting some of the great events eg Hannibal crossing the Alps The Sack of Rome The Reformation Industrial Revolution Peasants Revolt The Wright Brothers etc to experience it as it was and be untouched by or unable to touch and change such world events would only serve as an exercise in revealing our own powerlessness.

The past is another country for a reason...they do things differently there..and to look on that past with the benefits of our current knowledge and experience... wouldn't that diminish the value and achievements of those past events one goes back to experience but can never change.

The past....it's gone

The future... it's not yet formed

The now... by the time you say it its already past..

I hear what you're saying, I really do.

But my original question is basically, is there any event in history a person would like to have witnessed. I used the time machine as a hypothetical means of getting there. I didn't mean changing things in our lives.

I just have too much curiosity and adventure in me and would loved to have witnessed numerous events in history. Watching them on telly or reading about them isn't the same thing.

That's all my OP was about.

"Can this machine go into the future?"

I'd imagine so.

I'd love to go and see how the human race turns out. Will we destroy ourselves? Will we figure it all out? Will we evolve into the spiritual beings we're meant to be and lose our physical limitations? One can only wonder.
