Be careful of its4women. Very poor reputation for customer service quick to decline to cover for an accident UK based call centres and Gibraltar based underwriter. In other words dodgy as fuck

My friend had an english driving licence and ran out so had to go apply for irish heel of the hunt at 45 no insurance company would cover her so only one that covered her was boxymo .

If you look you will see its a company called sure stone NOT AIG. Sure stone are UK regulated and Gibraltar controlled.

Its4 women score 4 out of 10 on industry surveys..Maybe that's where the 4 in the name comes from...

Heard some lad on the radio a couple weeks ago saying that they are good and not only for women too. He actually got a quote from them a couple of hundred euros cheaper than any other. Because of competition laws, they have to offer insurance to male drivers too.

You really want to do all the work yourself...

Find a broker prices should be about the same as going direct... and if the broker cocks up you can Sue them...so get some legal expenses insurance... with a different company to the car insurer

Do it yourself and if it goes wrong you may find yourself uninsured...

Contact a broker as well as going on-line.

I use one with the business and saved over a grand. Its only a phone call or an email and they do the work for you.

Some of them will also sort out finance arrangements for you also.

Quick quotes are worth a call.

Got a quote from AXA for a friend of mine, she is 20, provisional licence, 2007 Ford Focus basic model 1.4, her own policy €3244, a 2007 Opel Corsa 1.0 was €2756. There are different risk codes on cars by the companies. You are better off going into an AXA office than trying online.

Brokers don't cover anything... they just arrange the insurance. Don't know what the options are but both core cover and any options can be arranged by brokers who have access to wider market than any direct insurer...if they are any good!

I would presume if you have an accident driving like that you are not covered and immediately at fault though.

Can I put this bluntly without insulting car insurance brokers? No? Ah well here goes.

Car insurance companies don't give a flying fuck about you. They will skin you for every penny they can.

If you have a decent history you will get decent cheaper quotes from other companies which your existing company will without a hint of shame match. That's how nasty they are.

Equally brokers don't give a flying fuck either. They charge you a small fee for getting you insurance but the big money they make from insurance companies.

The dodgy insurance company needs to build market share. They do it by paying brokers to sell their business.

So if your broker said they have a great quote from some company you never heard of get nervous. Find out who the next highest quote is from because chances are you can get a real insurance policy from a company that might actually save you having to sell your house if you have an accident for 30 quid more.

Read a news story today. Lady with crash history couldn't get a quote for less than €3500. Discovered she could hire a brand new Polo for under €50/wk = €2500/yr. So she didn't have to pay for car tax, depreciation, service, nct mechanical repairs etc and got to drive a new car. On top of that, the rental car company would valet the car for her during servicing. #no-brainer

Whats this 'big money' they receive from insurers you refer to? Brokers will receive on average 10% commission from insurers on each policy they sell. How exactly is that 'big money'? Do you expect them to do it out of the goodness of their hearts? As an addition to this, most insurers are starting to scale back commission they pay to brokers for personal lines products so this 'big money' you mention is getting smaller all the time

The big money is the bonus they get from poorly rated insurers to bulk sell products. That's over and above the commission they get for selling a policy.

A broker typically only gives you one quote. Ask for the second and third best. If it's an unrated insurer chances are the second quote is a few euro more.

Now ask yourself. Why for the sake of 20 euro would a broker recommend a zenith or a setanta over Allianz? Simple. Because zenith pay him more
