Just clicked on a forum thread and told i dont have permission to view. How is this on an open forum. Can you choose to have a closed forum thread? Or is there another reason. Blocked? Just curious.

It's a sad state of affairs when a forum thread is removed when no ones name was mentioned. What is worse ....someone stating they will not meet a guy because that guy has previously met someone who is larger or cuddlier than her or discussing the topic in an open forum. Obviously the op will be banned because this person must know the right people on the site powerful enough to remove the thread. Your thoughts please...

Maybe you missed the point where someone said someone said something, instead of someone actually saying something. There's a difference.

No I'm not missing the point I fully appreciate the subtly but it's an open forum and can't see where any Of The forum rules were broken.

I cant even remember what the thread was about, just puzzled as to why access was denied.

Admin obviously thought it was going to get a little out of order. Better closed down than allowing it to get nasty.

Being a forum moderator on another site, I know that closing threads or removing them completely invariably annoys someone, and usually gets called into question. We always gave a reason on the forum for all to see.

Usually, it was the same few people sniping or throwing digs that new or irregular forum users wouldn't even notice. Usually, it was plain to see who was d*unk, or bitter, or both. When you spend quite a bit of time on a forum, you know who's being referred to, even without them being named. One person's word against another is never a good enough reason to post, it's unfair, and even more unfair if one person uses the forum to talk about another who might not even be aware of what's being said.

Sorry for rambling, I just think that sometimes mods have to make judgement calls, for reasons known to them, and by using the site and the forum, we're technically saying that we accept that.

ps The examples I gave above are from personal experience on the other site, and not meant to imply that this is what happens or happened here.

Didn't notice it was gone til this thread but from a quick skim read of the forum rules I see how it was removed. Private mail should stay private and airing dirty laundry. And as said already I'm sure others can figure out who they're on about which isn't fair

Not always, no. But there's a team of us, and if in doubt we ask each other, and if necessary ask a paid, official mod for advice. Sometimes there's no-one to ask and the thread is closed pending advice. Closed threads have sometimes been reopened after a discussion within the team.

Not always, no. But there's a team of us, and if in doubt we ask each other, and if necessary ask a paid, official mod for advice. Sometimes there's no-one to ask and the thread is closed pending advice. Closed threads have sometimes been reopened after a discussion within the team. "
