This one is for lads really but if girls know that'd be good too, when I was growing up I never got weepy or thought films were sad and that, but in the last six months I've started welling up and finding things really sad, is that something that happens to men or something as they get older? Suppose its feeling more empathetic than I use to

Id have always been a crier i suppose if i was teased or scolded by parents etc. Id be fairly sensitive in that regard. My dad can still make me cry and im 33!!

But when i was younger empathy or sadness for others wouldnt have affected me as much as it does now. Like if there was a mass shooting when i was in my teens or whatever i wouldnt have cared one bit.

Now the weight of one of these events would break me up a little inside. I suppose i grasped the scale of people in dire situations!

This ^ and its a perfectly normal emotion to have. Just because your body has finished growing and changing, your mind never does.Your mind is constantly changing,evolving and growing and viewing things in a different way. It doesnt make you less of a man to show emotion, like tears of sadness or happiness for that matter. It shows youre more empathetic and compassionate to what you see around you. Hugs Op.

Yeah that's exactly why I put this up. There was a stupid film on last night called odd Thomas, at the end it turned out his gf was dead and I was literally sick and sad watching it, watched Pete's dragon and the kid was running around the streets looking for his dragon in a hospital gown, my niece was like are u crying, I almost was, just going soft and checking if this was the norm as men get older, even toy story 3 is sad now haha

Just because your body has finished growing and changing, your mind never does.Your mind is constantly changing,evolving and growing and viewing things in a different way. Where and also when I grew up, a man couldn't show any weakness, let alone cry, but now, I've grown up and I am my own person. I don't care what you think of me, if you have a problem with me, that's your problem, deal with it. I'm comfortable and confident with who I am. I've loved and I've lost and that stuff has with stayed with me, and it probably always will. Now, I don't cry at every puppy dog, kitten and sun set I see but I'm also a father now and that has changed my out look of life too.

I'm not ashamed to admit this but when I brought my daughter to Disneyland this year, in the three days we were there, there wasn't one day that I didn't feel like crying at lest 3 times. I never thought I'd ever say this but when I was there, with my daughter, I felt so happy I could cry,,,,,,,,,,,,, or maybe there was just something in my eye

What a great topic.

The older I've got the more I've found myself tearing u. I know funerals are sad but when I was 16 17 attending a funeral or 2 looking at people upset I would of never cried in a million years or got a lump in the throat now a days anything can set me off. Finding out a sister of mine is pregnant being proud of a family member when they done something. Ireland winning the 6 nations in Paris a few years back. Brady scoring against Italy in Euro 2016. Happy unforgettable moments.

Then there's the sad ones

The odd film (True Grit to name 1) and a programme or two on tv would make me well up quite considerably and I'd just sit there with my hand on my cheek trying to hold it in. 1 born every minute has made me cry the most out of anything on tv when parents were receiving bad news.

Really good feedback by most people

I ended up leaving a good job with good money for a more fulfilling job minding people for a lot less money due to how I feel these days about things happening around me. may be impulsive but felt right and still does. The change in feelings have made me altogether happier and more caring. Just glad it happens other men and thanks again everyone for sharing stuff blokes don't like to share and u too girls

Since I had kids I get upset by anything where I thibk a kid is sad. ..sorry I know that sounds weird but if I see a child who looks like they are poor, or just have that sad eye look I actually well up.

I get emotional about real life stuff I read that hits home

I can cry on cue anytime by thinking of something that happened here few years ago. I didn't know ppl involved but it hit home. Real stuff tho. Very real

My dad used to say that to my brothers,Man up!!! He taught them to keep a stiff upper lip and that it was the "manly" thing to do. The trouble with that was, they stopped talking to him about their feelings and emotions and talked to me or my sisters and mother about what was going on. I dont mean any of my 5 brothers were balling all the time either! Stuff that bothered or upset them, they went elsewhere to talk the feelings out as my father was a man for suppressing feelings and felt it was a "girly" thing to happen. Which it isnt.

I have to agree Sally, its a sad affair when suicide rates are the highest among men. Ive 2 fine lads aged 24 and 19 and i would literally die if i thought they felt they couldnt talk to me, or their dad about issues going on with them.

You're connecting with your emotions, through a film which shows you're human and there's nothing wrong with that, at all man. Scene in Mel Gibson's THE PATRIOT where the little girl says her first words NEARLY got me but am sticking with "salt from popcorn in my eyes" story

It's always the ones who are the life of the party. Brave face and all that. This thread went off track with the whole crying thing, its more about softening with age. I never cry, it's more fighting not to feel the sadness etc... People who say man up or stop been a pussy don't understand some people live in turmoil. Everyone should just support everyone but doesn't happen. One day people will stop trolling
