"Was called but wasn't picked for the panel, it's a pain in the arse but they make it hard to get out of doing it. You could be on a jury for months and sometimes hauled up in a hotel away from your family and friends. I think it would be quite a stressful experience to be picked, especially if it is a distressing case. As far as I'm aware you don't get paid, unless your employer chooses to , I find it hard to see any employer pay for you to be absent from work! was called before myself but wasn't selected on the day..I wouldn't mind a month off work with pay and staying in hotels would be nice too "

" the employer is legally obliged to pay for your duration on the panel..of course if you're self employed you're fooked " And if you're self employed you have a better chance that the county registrar may excuse you from jury duty due to loss of earnings. Over the years I've been called twice, completed one service which was a week long and it was no fun been cooped up in accommodation with only other jurors to talk to.

"I got called and ended up serving. Found it good ended up doing it for 2 weeks. Loved getting my dinners in a hotel for those 2 weeks too. Exempt for 3 years and thats is now coming to an end." As Homer Simpson said in jury service 'I am going to make sure he walks out of here a free hotel'
