Was called but wasn't picked for the panel, it's a pain in the arse but they make it hard to get out of doing it. You could be on a jury for months and sometimes hauled up in a hotel away from your family and friends. I think it would be quite a stressful experience to be picked, especially if it is a distressing case.

was called before myself but wasn't selected on the day..I wouldn't mind a month off work with pay and staying in hotels would be nice too

As far as I'm aware you don't get paid, unless your employer chooses to , I find it hard to see any employer pay for you to be absent from work!

the employer is legally obliged to pay for your duration on the panel..of course if you're self employed you're fooked

Was called not picked, make sure you go, chances of been picked are slim, if you have a good reason can get out of it, but if you don't turn up you can be fined

" the employer is legally obliged to pay for your duration on the panel..of course if you're self employed you're fooked "

And if you're self employed you have a better chance that the county registrar may excuse you from jury duty due to loss of earnings.

Over the years I've been called twice, completed one service which was a week long and it was no fun been cooped up in accommodation with only other jurors to talk to.

The last time I was called I heard stupid excuses like I used to play football with this man I know him

I don't think you'll ever be called away for months. Trials just don't last that long and people won't be expected to do that. As mentioned employers have to pay you for it. I'd say the very maximum it would last would be two weeks.

Loughlinstown

Was called for jury duty a few months ago. Had to go in for a few days. Monday - didn't get picked... Tuesday - didn't get picked... Very last case on the last day, Wednesday - GOT BLOODY PICKED

Ended up on the jury for an embezzlement case. Lasted two days and was actually a great experience. Gave me a little more faith in the justice system

If I ever get picked and have to stay in hotel, I'd let Fab know. Just in case some nice lady felt a civic duty to relieve my boredom

Buddy of mine was on a case for a month before so I panicked when I was called recently. I went on line and booked a flight for Gatwick and sent in a copy of my itinerary the court accepted it and I never had to go.

I was called a few years ago but was not picked, think it was my long hair a bit like Dave mustaine, the twenty facial piercings, the beard like Kerry king that put them off,was asked to come back the next day but never did and heard nothing about it.

As Homer Simpson said in jury service 'I am going to make sure he walks out of here a free hotel'
