May seem like a daft question this but here we go.

This coming weekend we are flying from Liverpool to Northern Ireland for a party. Since N.I. is part of the U.K.we are assuming we don't need our passports.

Is that so.?

deoends on your carrier , if its ryanair you will need your passport , any other airline , you should be fine with just a british driving licence .

I think if you want to he safe just take your passport. I once got on an easy jet flight and didn't get asked for I.D once.

I assume you're flying into Belfast.

Under immigration law the airline is responsible for costs if an illegal immigrant is transported into the country.

NI has a land boarder with Republic of Ireland so in theory an illegal immigrant could come into the mainland via an internal flight from NI without having passed UK boarder control.

Each company decides what policy is best for them to avoid such cost risks. RyanAir probably find it easier just to blanket demand passorts rather than risk confusion should check-in staff be moved around airports.

Many years ago Passports was the norm - more of a security thing than immigration.
