So I got accused of racisim last week as I was taking sode long glances at a woman on the street.

But honestly I was just checking her out while trying not to be knuckle dragging obvious about it. Apparently I failed at it.

Anyone else had similar in Dublin?

I've seen it happen - and quite similar to your story! At the bus stop, a white guy was checking out a black girl who was absolutely stunning, and she snapped at him and said "what are you staring at? Have you never seen a black woman before" I was quite taken aback as I didn't see her colour and obvs nor did he, we just saw a beautiful woman!

Was asked "what was my white muthafuckin ass staring at" one night in a pub with my friends. He was the image of Usher!!, who i happen to think is the best looking black guy ive ever seen in my life. Needless to say looking at his angry face, i explained why. His mood soon changed so I told him to totter back to his mates cos he was nicer when he kept his gob shut.

Glad to hear it was not just me then. I don't tend to find colour matters in attractiveness.

I think its a defence mechanism with them, the attitude being, the best form of defence is attack. Do black people assume that the old ideals still stand ,in thinking that white people are superior and prejudiced and full of bigotry? I might not understand fully the culture in which they were raised but that wouldnt give me cause to hate them.

In certain corners of the country or for some people a black person is still an unusual sight. having a few black friends I've noticed when I'm out with them that they've to deal with a good amount of staring sometimes. Which isn't done out of a racist intention by the starer, I believe, but might trigger a reaction from the person being stared at.

Sadly racism is still alive and well in Ireland and elsewhere. Hopefully future generations won't have the same issues.

Personally I would be happy if someone wanted to look at my white ass, hell I would give them a picture.

Eloquently put and tbh because of similar situations to previous posts I have come to the realisation that I am most probably an accidental racist because of this very issue

I am so conscious that I may get the racist card thrown at me that I often avoid interaction in case I make an unintentional gesture or comment that is manipulated into something that it definitely was not....

As a fabber says quite frequently on here ...let's just all get along...

Make love people

I was racially abused when I lived in dolphins barn in dublin. I was born and raised in the area to irish parents with irish ancestry as far back as I could trace it.

I'm pasty white but when the sun comes out I tan quick and it lasts. I was working in devanys off licence and came back home after two weeks in the canaries. I was abused by local people.

People told me my English was good for a nigger. I was told to fuck off back to my own country. Ireland didn't need niggers. Or moooslims. I was told I was filthy. That God made me that colour because he wanted me know I was going to burn in hell forever. I was told to leave irish women alone. If they found me raping irish women they would burn me alive.

I had gone to school with these people. Served them drink for over a year. But they didn't see me. They just seen dark skin and a beard.

So it seems, but from my part, i dont partake in any forms of racism, abusive or otherwise. Its kinda sad really that people cant live and let live. I was sent to school where black kids were in class with me.They were my friends and it never occurred to me to think otherwise. I actually work with students on an exchange programme from Tanzania and South Africa. I couldnt for the life of me ,pronounce their names but when translated means, Comfort,Brightness and Flower and Victory. Kinda cool i think!!

correct ....back in the early days of colonialism ...prejudice against redheads was a form of racism against the sub class of Irish and Scots. It was a form of racism as the Celtic tribes where seen as wild and unruly . There where no black or Asian populations living in Western Europe at the time and the biggest ethnic group which the ruling class wished to suppress was the northern and western Celtic tribes with their fiery red hair. This notion still exists today with numerous negative comments and names against those with red hair.

it's well documented fact and evident in modern culture that there is numerous negative remarks against red heads all stemming back from colonial times. My father grew up in England in forties and endured terrible harassment for having red hair . When he returned to Ireland it stopped.

Can I offer that there's another notion that certain types of over-sensitive people can read the most ridiculous conspiracies into what in all essence,is a light-hearted joke?

Did the English start Blonde jokes too or do you reckon it was a man? perhaps in reality discrimination against red hair doesn't exist ....perhaps in the same reality the famine never happened or the Jewish holocaust or even the Ethiopian famine but reality exists and is harsh"

How are Ginger haired people discriminated against?

It's wrong to treat people different because of a physical trait. Hair colour, skin colour. Height. Gender. Just like its wrong to discriminate because of Sexual orientation. Or ethnicity.

I'm guilty of mocking ginger haired guys.

Then again I am guilty of mocking short people too.

And blondes.

And people from Leitrim.

And my bosses in work.

People from the country

People from the cities.

Dubs

French people

North siders

I'm not a nice person.

He was the image of Usher!!, who i happen to think is the best looking black guy ive ever seen in my life. Needless to say looking at his angry face, i explained why. His mood soon changed so I told him to totter back to his mates cos he was nicer when he kept his gob shut. "

Racism still existing every where even in African countries. No matter what we do or say, they will be some people that will never change their minds or opinions a bout what's different. Many of us have no idea about what's going on in some area. I ve been victim of attacks many times once a guy did spite on my face saying he couldn't stand blacks, got my car keyed twice in one month,Gardais called to my place 3 times and searched my car 3 times after receiving a call from a consern neigbhour, that was becoming embarrassing.so I just had to move to let him or her win.yet that doesn't make me think any less about every one else.

I had this too. I told her she was gorgeous and i thanked her and I carried on my way

Make love people "

Despite your intentions it's kind of a racist act in and of itself... Exclusion for fear of consequence.... Probably an irrational fear anyway...just talk to people and be nice

As someone whoose job is dealing with people from non eu nationals I can definitely say it's a defensive reaction. However once.you vet talking and they relax there's no difference than talking to anybody else. And as for the women stunning or not they absolutely love being flattered and flirted with that includes the normally very quiet middle eastern women

How are Ginger haired people discriminated against?"

Probably because theres only 2 % of the worlds population that have ginger hair Candy. Theres a myth surrounding them as being witches and vampires hundreds of years ago but more recently, its ginger haired men who are victims of bullying and harassment and not women. There was something i read a few years ago in the paper. Where a ginger haired man was charged and fined for disorderly conduct in 2001. The irish judge openly stated he was a firm believer that hair colouring has an effect on temper and the defendants hair coloring suggested to the judge, he had a temper

Then back in 2008, a book of face page group was set up called " Kick a Ginger Day" in the US. Redheads were kicked every day for no reason and hundreds of arrests were made. It was posted on the back of an episode of South Park screened called "Ginger Kids". A redhead took over the group and re -named it "Hug a Ginger". So February 22nd is national hug a ginger day. Tell Mr.69 i'll be waiting with my arms open if hes not too scared this time around

"So I got accused of racisim last week as I was taking sode long glances at a woman on the street.

But honestly I was just checking her out while trying not to be knuckle dragging obvious about it. Apparently I failed at it.

Anyone else had similar in Dublin?"

not in Dublin no..I had problems with the neighbours in the flat above mine..there was a leak coming through the ceiling so I politely informed them there was a leak and they needed to get a plumber to see to it ..had to say it 4 times before he said is it because I'm a blackman that this is all happening..eh wtf or how did he get racism from asking him to fix a leak..I felt like saying its not because you're a black man its because you're a bastard which is far worse..the cheeky fooker wanted me to pay for the plumber but i stood my ground and eventually he got the problem sorted and apologized to me but you need to be careful..I'd nearly go as far as to say stay away from them completely so you don't get accused of racism for going about your daily business

Wow, this thread took a lot more turns than I expected but glad people could use it to discuss things and share experiences.

As a red head guy I will keep my opinions on the rest to private messages.
