Out in the sticks

In Pub last night and someone was talking about a speeding ticket he got for doing 51 in a 50k zone.

Wasn't sure if it was true or not, but is there no allowance made, as not all speedos are 100% accurate.

He is thinking of challenging it.

Are people actually fined for 1k over?

....them fucks in the vans will. If you're soft enough to pay it. I think a speedometer can be up to 3% off...so I would go to court on that one.....

I know they average speed over a certain distance.

Only had one close one myself, doing maybe 90k in an 80 zone, hit brakes and pulled in behind it as they can't do you unless you drive past the van.

Thought 51 was a bit mean though!

Traffic offences take up 60% of district Court time. ..I think the judges like to see them sneaky fuckers get a bloody nose.... There is a way to beat 100% of these dodgy speeding tickets. .lol.

You naughty naughty people! I've never been caught lol but those cunts in the vans are stupid enough to set up in the same places over and over again so it's easy to avoid getting caught

There's a fair chance that his speedo was telling him he was doing close to 60. It does seem a bit tight though.

.....no..... you don't have to do any of those things. ...im not talking about doing 100mph past a school. .I don't agree with dangerous driving..but getting done for a few miles over the limit...thats why I won't say it on open forum. ...

A garda (brother in law) says there is a 10% tolerance. So need to be over 55km to get done in a 50km zone. Wouldn't like to chance it do. Pub talk can be shit talk a lot of the time.

I recall the Garda Commissioner dealing with this topic when the contract was handed out for the speed vans. He said there was no scope under Irish law for any discretion in this matter. That may not be the case in the ground if you're stopped by a garda but most people getting done for speeding these days are caught by the "gosafe" vans.

A close friend in the UK po-po told me they have a 10% error built in and the relative police force usually adds between 1+4 mph on top of that before tickets are issued.

I don't know about here.

I seem to remember a court case in the UK where some guy had the police speed cameras independently tested and proved that they had a margin of error. I'm not sure why it's not the same here but apparently it's not.

They say there are only two reasons for not trusting someone...

.

1) because you don't know them

2) because you do know them

If you notice the speed signs on roads they are always less than your speedo which is a few kms faster than you are driving.

If you want to test your own odometer, turn your sat nav on, get up to speed on the Motorway and look at the difference...

What's a Motorway?

Are they the ones with bits of white paint in the middle?
