Okay I had plumbing issues today. Why is a ballcock called ballcock?

When taps first appeared, it was noted they resembled the profile of a cock's head and thus were called cocks. Add a flotation ball that regulates flow through the cock and it is now a ball-cock.

Cock-sure...not a drop of doubt will pass.

And due to the noted resemblance to these new cocks, men started referring to their penes as cocks too.
