"The black armbands - it was the time of Bobby Sands."

The summer of '81. A dark time in Irish history no matter what side of the political divide you stand on

Dublin

The last night, everyone sneaking out in the middle of the night, down pitch black country roads and all meeting up on the beach.

Some of us having a little bit more fun on the beach that others.

Ah good times...

My Irish has always been woefully bad, but I do have "Gaelic, mother tongue" as languages spoken on my CV, but that's another story,

The only thing I learned down the Gealtacht was "Tuigim" (I inderstand) even though I hadn't a clue what was been said. "tuigim and "sha" thats all I got, but I'm not surprised I didn't get much more, I was sent home after a week and a half

A hiding with the wooden spoon and having to spend the rest of the summer holidays at my Da's was my punishment on that occasion.
