The winter one is only for people who are properly fit and into it. It's not advisable for people who don't train a lot or don't maintain a good level of fitness.

Not so, it's just colder. I've done it twice in summer and twice in the colder months with similar fitness level's. The only difference is less people are signed up for the winter events so you get a clear run at the track. I wouldn't do the summer one again as you spend most of your time waiting to get through the back log at obstacles. The cold doesn't have any bearing on your fitness level

Maybe it's what people that do it on the winter tell themselves

I think it's just what they tell everyone else . No doubt it's tougher mentally but unless you have let your fitness levels drop which a lot of people do then it's the same course with the same challenge's. Still well worth a shot if you have the time

The colder part is a huge difference though. I have done 7 and two of those were winter ones. The first one it was snowing as we went over the top of the sugarloaf. I've never been colder in my entire life and you couldn't even run to warm up. The one last January was the easiest and shortest course of any that I've done, though that was just because it was so mild. People had got hypothermia the year before. If you're doing it for fun I wouldn't suggest the winter ones, if you really want to challenge yourself to the limits, then yes do it. I would reckon if you're unfit and slow, the cold will affect you more.

I did the summer one this year but signed up for the first wave, had no problem with people slowing me down. Would definitely reccomend paying the extra for the clear run. It was actually the toughest course of the 7.

I didn't realise there was an option to pay more for a clear run. I generally do it for charity but I would gladly pay the extra few quid if I knew I could just blitz it to avoid frosty toes

Did it in winter with group from gym for charity. Stayed with a girl who kept getting leg cramps so slowed me down which doesn't help when its Baltic. Never been as cold in my whole life and my finger tips were numb for days. But would do again but stay over somewhere cos I don't travel well and the coach trip wasn't fun

I only found out because I signed up late and it was the only option left. Think it was a fiver more. Made for a much better event not getting stuck in queues.
