In fairness a lot of men get good college educations from playing football something they couldn't afford otherwise

a lot get put in courses that have been created just so they can play college football there are players who have got through college that are barely able to read either. its big business masked as a thing to help people get to college.

I knew a guy years ago in the US who got a college scholarship to play American football with one of the biggest colleges over there. He told me about his first year with them and the amount of training that was expected of them and the pressure to do anything to stay at the top of your game. They expected you to do whatever it took to reach that goal, legal or not. He did one year with them and then went to study medicine. He figured it was better to get a good education rather than have the possibility of having nothing at the end of college other than long term injuries.

The money taken in by the GAA is ploughed back into clubs and communities the length and breadth of the country.

As someone who attended a big ten college in the US and lived with football players over the summer I can tell you most of what is assumed above isn't true. There are pros and cons to every corrupt sports body world wide. They are all out to make a profit no matter how good they look.

Yes the GAA does a lot for clubs and community. Not denying that. But they also dont pay their semi professional athletes. That was my point. The NCAA is no different and as already mentioned puts a lot of athletes through college who normally wouldn't have a chance. Like half a million of them. There are nation wide programs developed and supported just like any other sports organisation.

Personally I don't really give a toss about college sports myself but its unfair to assume things that aren't necessarily true.

I've seen one American football game live and that was enough. It was a pro game and I found it confusing, wayyyyy too long (3 feckin hours!), too start stop and I couldn't wait for it to end.... so no I shall not be attending

It's some spectacle in fairness. Our Yankee cousins know how to put on a show!

The half-time Irish dancing piece was savage too - incredible looking ladies!
