I was chatting with a few friends who have been reading this post..... the comments that so many have put up here reflects the irish forum unfortunately and that is the face that new people see and it's what they envisaged the socials would be like if these people were at them.... rightly or wrongly you impact others and new ones joining in. Only by the same type of person...so don't stoop. If there had been some helpful constructive comments at the beginning to ascertain why he felt like that...then it may have been less negative. But that's the common way onso many of the irish post uunfortunately. You're not doing yourselves any favours.

Apparently some of you are actually quite nice and different in person according to a few contacts who have had the added privilege of meeting a few of you. I've yet too...but the forum face doesnt help.....that's the impression you give....bit like a bad photo or poor profile. It's hard to look beyond it sometimes.

It's bit shameful tbh. Puts me off an Irish social completely.

Yes because the OP has being posting constructively you know the saying you get what you give?

Only by the same type of person...so don't stoop. If there had been some helpful constructive comments at the beginning to ascertain why he felt like that...then it may have been less negative. But that's the common way onso many of the irish post uunfortunately. You're not doing yourselves any favours.

Apparently some of you are actually quite nice and different in person according to a few contacts who have had the added privilege of meeting a few of you. I've yet too...but the forum face doesnt help.....that's the impression you give....bit like a bad photo or poor profile. It's hard to look beyond it sometimes. "

The point that is being made is the OP started a thread 2 days ago in which he came across and a pleasant genuine newbie.

I, along with others gave him some helpful advice. Now two days later, we get the thread we're on now. I used to give advice to newbies all the time, but I do it less and less because there's no way to tell if the newbie is actually genuine, or just a troll. well, the online attitude of the OP has now been revealed, and some of us feel a little burned.

Is it any wonder the more experienced people are wary to advise newbies, when this is the result?

Trolls have made us jaded, because we're dealing with them every day.

If this was his first thread, and if his approach in those other threads hadn't painted a clear picture. The response may well have been different. But it wasn't and they weren't.
