The Affinia shelburne is a little away from Times Square, it's in Murray hill, but is a lovely hotel and you can get a room with a little kitchen which is handy, also the best place around for brekkie is across the road and an Irish bar two mins walk away that does great food (I'm not a fan of Irish pubs when away but this one just happened to be Irish and done great food)

Just bear in mind there is a 14.5 tax on top of your room bill aswell as a New York City tax

If your planning on going shopping and are heading to Woodbury commons, sign up before hand for their vip "club" there's great coupons there, you get a coupon book when you arrive but some shops will take both coupons and you can make great savings, and in Macy's bring your passport to their customer service and get tax free shopping

Last time I was there I was using a credit card and was asking in afew places for my passport to prove the card was mine so something else to keep in mind! Maybe a different photo ID and not be carrying around your passport

Have a great trip

Try AirBnB for accommodation. It's brilliant, and suits all pockets.

Royal Jordanian Airlines used to do a stop over in Shannon. Cheap flights, I've used them twice.

So any places I should go while there and not the tourist ones

Mean while over on Trip Advisor the OP has shocked users with a post asking about the swinging and Club scene in the Big Apple .

Was there only a few weeks ago. It looks like conemara in the middle of new York!! Not far from the twin towers and 9/11 memorial.

Little Italy for food. Plenty of online restaurant reviews. Suggest you book ahead though. Nice place to sit outdoors and have a drink while watching the world go by..
