War is an ugly thing. We would just be meat for the sausage maker. I would fight to defend my home tho.

I have been reading lots about WW 1. Listen to hardcore histories, he has 20 hours on trench warfare and it's not easy listening

There is a guy in Dublin who collated the military records of Irish men who went into battle. Those that were injured were sent back to the UK to hospitals, and if they recovered were sent back to war, some more than once.

if it was a non nuke war then id say our best chance would be having a guerilla militia and id happily take part in that i already have the hardware and cammo gear plus 10000 rounds of ammo but i wouldn't fight a war on foreign soil

Already been to war. Would I do it again. YES I would provided the evidence justified the need. As said above war is ugly and not a nice place to be how ever the things we enjoy today we probably wouldn't have if it wasn't for war. Computers, jet engines etc etc

Since I have met Irish service men who secure the border between Lebanon and Syria in behalf of the UN I think this comment is quite degrading those lads out in the field. Although I am not a born Irish men, I believe this country has all reason to be proud about the contribution of their citizens in uniform and those fellas do not deserve such comment regardless what any media may post for the sake of public entertainment and sales numbers of their tabloid

I would but their membership is top secret. Still though, as elite as they are they still have no experience of actual warfare, and aren't ever likely to so what's the point in even having an ARU?

Peacekeeping isn't experience of battle. It's not like they can even shoot anyone

I've no fath in the Irish Army's capabilities to successfully defend our nation if we were invaded by any other country.

If anyone in this country does have faith in their capability to do so they're very naive.

If this land gets invaded by means of a conventional campaign then yes I get your point.The military would be easy to be out gunned and outnumbered. Regardless the bravery of its service men, the Irish army is too small to hold longer than a week. So is Ireland as a nation,to small in resources to finance a war in traditional warfare.

If invaded it would be a long and bitter fought urban guerilla warfare. In this type of conflict Ireland has long and sad history,

But if it comes to WW3, it will be fought with nukes and all we can do is pray that the selfdestruction of our species is a matter of seconds and that we do not die a gruesome slow death in the aftermath of the apocalypse like the survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Better to work to avoid it in the first place. Nationalism would be among others one of the evils to be wiped out to achieve this

the army here was founded on the ideals of guerilla warfare and still is there units are kept small mobile and well armed I've no doubt kick assessment and take names. We kicked the ass of one of the biggest empires in the world on there own doorstep
