I've been considering doing a jump for charity and I'm just wondering if anyone here has done one before or what it would entail. All advice welcome. Cheers

Read a funny article a while back about charity parachute jumps, think it was in Australia or something, but it turned out that so many people were getting injured doing them that it was costing the health service more to treat them than what they were raising for charity...

I'm always a little skeptical of charity fund raisers that have a high cost associated with them (for example travel of some sort).

Not sure but what sky diving costs but must be around 150e a throw or so and u got that kinda cash why not just give it over to SVP or Simon and walk away.

Use ur own money & time to get over ur own fears.

The person doing the jump gets it for free I suppose...so they're helping themselves while helping charity..

You can do the 10000 feet tandem jumps easily enough for charity if you raise over a certain amount. There is very little training required as the instructor is strapped to your back and you just have to get on the plane. Usually if you raise €450 - €500 the charity will get about half.

There are static jumps available where you go solo but these have more training involved and you have to raise more cash due to the increased costs in insurance for going solo.

The big problem in Ireland is getting the weather good enough and you may be forced to travel to an airfield across the country and the jump can be called off at the last minute if the weather is not playing ball.

I did a couple of tandems and a single solo jump but had to travel to galway to do them which makes it difficult for supporters to attend with you.

skydive4charity website will be of help to you for information

Fair play to anyone doing something for charity but what a waste...

Charity my hole never believe that money actually goes to the people that needed it. I done it last year in my country just because I'm an adrenaline junkie and think ire was to expencive but then discover prices in ire was the same. So just pay 300 e jump then save more money and jump again as is a sensation u never do it again. If u want rase money for a real charity then get that money and go to them directly and give the money to them who real need lots charitys there just bulshiet u to get your money. Also let me know if u want to jump from the plane I do it with ya
