Ah, stop. I'm in the process now and it's just ridiculous.

Last year fully comp €360.

This year fully comp €1050 (highest quote)...

Seriously!?

9+ years no claims, full license, no points.

Its because my car is older. Apparently being a good driver, who has taken care of my vehicle and never needed to replace it, and never made a claim means I'm priced out of the market.

Its 4 Women are the best. Coming in at €480.

It's the new equalisation thing. It was supposed to lower men's but because it's not regulated properly everyone got screwed over. I know a 19 yr old who pays over €5000 to drive a 02 Clio. It's crazy. Mine is €500 a year and I've 6 points. They tried to quote me €1200 in November but I just went elsewhere.

It just arrived this morning... See they have me under Deluxe Comp which includes Car Sharing and a pile of stuff I don't need and won't use like incorrectly fitted child seats etc... so will see what it will be without all these.

Ours went up front 580 to 1160 fully comp, open driving, glass breakage 33yrs no claims it's a joke

Apparently some Cypriot based insurance company that was operating in the Irish market went bust that has to be covered by Irish insurance bonds and the increase in claims plus the high pay outs awarded here

Irish whiplash claims average 15k

English and comparable countries whiplash average from 3k to 7k

My first quote from my insurance company this year? 1,190.

went online to 123. Got a quote of 560.

went back to my own insurance company. They had NO PROBLEM matching the 560.

Now I ask ya. Its if high claims, a dodgy maltese insurance company, shitty drivers or any other number of excuses, how can they "scientifically " quote me 1190 to then halve it when I get a cheaper quote?

One other statistic. Axa made €190 million profit last year from irish car insurance. Funny they don't quote that statistic when you challenge them.

If you cant get alternative quotes your fucked. If you just take the quote they send you without shopping around, your a fool easily separated from your money

Btw be careful with the insurance you get based on the Setanta experience.

I had a car insured with Setanta Ireland Insurance. Turned out they were Maltese and when they shut up shop I had to pay for a second insurance policy because I had lost my money with Setanta.

Its worse for the people who had accidents with Setanta cover. The Insurance industry wanted those people, who had bought insurance in good faith and paid good money for it, to have to pay out the claims themselves because the company had failed. I know several people who were shitting bricks worrying they would lose their house.

Eventually the Courts decided that the other insurance companies had to pay out these claims like they do for uninsured drivers. So ya the industry wanted to shaft everyone and now are trying to make more profit claiming any excuse they can.

Be careful so if you are getting a good quote. If its a company that you never heard of, see if you can get cover from a reputable company instead.

yes stay away from its4women Uk register company that is unclear who is liable for anything, one of my friends asked for a refund for deposit when they couldnt provide her with one because she was not 3 years in ireland(Spanish girl)

Wrote both umbudsman irish and uk both could find which company was responsible for their mistake to provide and quote and no be able to insure her but happily and shamelessly take her money! Got her money back as she paid online by card so put a claim to bank to revert charge as service was not provided, then they had the balls to send her a letter to say she owed them for the hours she was insured... Advice her to light the fire with it

Broker is always good, or ask them to increase the Excess on your policy. This is the amount you pay IF you make a claim.

If you increase the Excess, it Reduces their risk, so price will be lower, and will only effect you, if a claim is made.

Examining the evidence of awards from the courts, the document says “motor insurers are now imposing higher premium rates to return themselves to profitability or to boost profitability after a number of years of insurers competing for market share, with prices driven down”.

As far as I know its an attempt by the insurance companies to correct problems.

1) we all have to bail out a failed insurance company when we shouldnt have to.

2) They are trying to equalise what men and women pay.

3) There have been a growing amount of crashes that are costing more.

The insurance companies need to build up war chests. This is when they basically rape people and put all the money into bank accounts. This HAS to be done in case a big insruance companies fails that could in return bankrupt them trying to bail out all the customers. So bailing out the failed company is only half the burden, saving up to bail out future failures is also a burden.

Because we HAVE to be insured it should be more tightly regulated. They shouldnt let claims spiral out of control.

I hear that the higher amount of taxis is causing a problem too. Every time someone crashes into one the car gets taken off the road to be fixed, they have to pay loss of earnings, they have to pay for passangers. This affects everyone, because its other road users crashing into taxis so its their insurance claims going up too.

Anyway, dont expect it to go back down for a few years.

These are excuses used by insurance companies to justify high premia to boost profits. It's proven by the injuries board claims are steady. Yet the insurance companies claim they are going up.

It's obvious that if you get several companies quoting you can halve your premium. Yet in my case every bloody year they try it on with a crazy quote and then drop the quote when I get a cheaper one.

It's a try on. Pure and simple. If you accept the first quote you are crazy. And if you can't get other quotes your fucked. Otherwise shop around
