It's OK not to feel OK.

Dublin West

So tomorrow sees the start of the 4th cycle against suicide and as some of you may remember I rode the whole distance last year on and off the official cycle to raise funds and awareness into the crisis that is suicide in Ireland.

Myself I have lost 5 people to it in the last number of years and have seen first hand how it tears families apart and I want to try to do something about it.

I ride my bike a good bit as it gives me the head space I need to cope with life when things are tough for me. I hope that my physical suffering over the next 2 weeks will start a conversation around what each one of you can do to help someone.

It may be as simple as having a coffee with someone that's suffering inside their own head or dropping someone a text asking if they are OK.

But mostly it's to say that it's OK not to be OK and it's absolutely OK to ask for help.

So the challenge i have set myself is to double up on the official cycle.

So simply it's 2222km in 2 weeks. I have no idea if I can do it or not. I'm going to do 5 days on the official cycle on the double and the rest I will fit around work.

I'm not looking for your money I'm just looking to raise the awareness so I will blog about it as much as I can in the hope that it might strike a cord with some people.

It's OK not to be OK...

Sean.

Fair play to you Sean, and it's something we need to be all aware of.

I've just finished doing some work with an organisation that's dealing with young people facing these issues. The work they are doing is phenomenal.

I wish you all the best with the challenge.

Fairplay Sean. For some people certain days the dark dog follows in their footsteps. They say he can be defeated probably more realistically he can be seen as something it can be learned to live with.

This!

You learn to live with it. You know it will come back every single time but it will pass. You just need to batten down the hatches when it does.

I think this is a great cause, and I think that you're amazing for doing the cycle, and doubling it this year. However, I absolutely HATE the logo, 'It's ok not to feel ok, and it's absolutely ok to talk about it'. From now on, it will be bandied about and used several times per conversation, and something about it just pisses me off. Just the logo, I want to stress that, not the cycle and the reasons behind it.

Maybe I got out the wrong side of the bed

Society is very tough these days. So called having fun or jibes at people in the name of fun can be so hurtful to those it's aimed at. Probably because a lot of this is done online now the perpetrator doesn't realise the harm or bullying they doing. We in a way see it here through statuses aimed at others. Maybe it's time to draw a line in the sand for some and decide to be the bigger person with goodness in mind. For the world in general remember Everybody Hurts.

Good man Sean. Everyone has the right to be who they are and free to talk about it openly without feeling different. I'm different but in my group I am the same. May you never get a puncture.
