As far as I'm aware kik is password protected so no. Viber and WhatsApp are related to your phone number and not the ip it is piggy backing on while sharing wifi let's say. Now there is a way to hack pretty much everything but it's extremely unlikely the average Joe could do it.

Is kik accessible thru a tablet? Get his tablet off him and check has he got the app, then give him a clip around the ear and tell him don't be nosing at your business

For an 11 year old I would say unlikely but it's very easy if you know what you doing and on same lan to see others activity etc.

That's what he was saying and started to show me what I was using but that wouldn't mean could see actual messages would it ?

Be wary though, Viber can be seen across your devices as it's linked to your phone number.

I deleted it from my Lappy because my messages were appearing there too

"Can kik or whatsapp or viber messages be seen from other devices running on same IP address ? "

If the device uses wifi then yes anyone can see the device ip address and name either on the router or using a sniffer program to scan for devices but access to the device is not likly.

Reading messages not using encryption could be done by examing the data from your device that are going threw the router.Any app encrypting the messages its not likly for anyone to see your messages without more advanced knowledge.

Kik I wouldn't recommend as no encryption is evolved so anything possible by spoofing addresses.

Whatsapp got end to end encryption so not very very likey anyone could read your messages.

Viber got encryption but I haven't used this to give a 100% answer but it should be safe enough.

Apps I recommend would be signal & telegram (secret chat).

Kik, whatsapp, and viber messages and all sent in an encrypted form. They cant be "sniffed" via wireless or by another networked device. There is no easy way to access the messages as long as your passwords are secure (or without access to your phone).

As far as i am aware both viber and whattsapp are attached to the physical device its installed on and not your "number" or "sim card" ... meaning if you install either on a device you will need to put in the number of the active sim card in the device at the time.. if you then remove the sim and insert a new sim with a different number..viber and whattsapp will still work and you will still get texts from others who use the origional number via viber and whattsapp.

Ip addresses on each device will all be different.. your router will have an ip and all devices will have its own ip that you put in manualy or its auto assigned usually its an APIPA address. If more than 1 machine on the same network at home had the same ip an ip conflict warning would pop up on your desktop..

Should i also add that the desktop version of viber will be connected to the account you registered with on the device if you use the origional number.

If the app is open on both computer and phone at same time outgoing and incoming messages will open on both devices.. but if the computer is not active then when opened the texts recieved will not be there.. as far as im aware

Whatsapp would notice that the app has been assigned to another and would give notification to the first device everytime the app opens so they can reverify.

Spoofing the Mac address of the device would maybe work on getting the messages but that would only work inside the same network and having physical access to the device to get the Mac address.

To sumup physical access is needed for the child to have any chance.

"Can kik or whatsapp or viber messages be seen from other devices running on same IP address ? "

as far as I know yes ,as a brother of mine in England , his girlfriend had his phone tracked/bugged , using an app apparantly .She openly admitted it.So the technology is there I guess.

But thats using an app. Not just because they on same network. And there is more than just an "IP" addy needed for devices to see and talk/communicate with each other.. 1st try ping the device..if you cant ping it you cant talk to it..however that does not mean you cant be pinged by the other device

Also be careful of images that come through these apps and auto-save; Whatsapp defaults to do that and Kik does it if you grant it access to your photos.

If they auto save onto your iphone then they can very easily be picked up on any other device (like your iPad) which is using the same Apple account. I've almost been caught out that way before!

Correct....I do this all the time as I travel abroad and have 3 different sims.... no need to do any changes other than swap the sims and continue as before. Kik is slightly different as it's connected to an email...

Threema is very secure one to one....encryption to connect... message scam bled and reassemble only by the receiver who has that special encryption to encode it.

Wickr:You create a username and password then you can use your username, phone number or a email to allow people to find you.

Signal: use your number.

The biggest growth industry in IT in the future will possibly be supplying services to undo all those things we did believing they were secure in past and even now. Big brother didn't even come near what actually exists.
