Seriously if the top paid luas drivers get their pay rise the want they would be on 62k a year. Ffs. Once you complete your 6 week training they are in 35k a year. Now serious they don't even have to steer

Fully agree, but dare the nurses go on strike, the world and her mother would be calling them all sorts. "My grandmother died because of them" "our Johnny had the awful pain in the belly because of them nurses".

But when truckers went on strike to highlight the rates their working for, Jaysus the country turned on us "fat cunts blocking the port" "wankers driving slow and blocking our roads"

Ah so that is why jumped up dickhead pedestrians and motorists have a tendency to walk.or drive out in front of them..

Then there are the drugged and sloshed dickheads that abuse them...

If people are so upset by them, why use the vital service they provide

Doubt they will, for bloody years the fat cat bankers et al robbed Ireland blind, huge pay increases curtesy of public money...

Weirdly though the papers reported it on a regular basis, the Irish sat back like lambs.

Yet dare the Luas drivers, who by the way do more than pull levers ask for more, the Irish gut them

1.People strike because jobs are being cut to save money

2.Without occassional strikes there'd be no such thing as rights to work for you, me or anyone else

3.Workers feel they have no option but to strike.

Regardless of how i feel, the flippant remarks on this thread are shocking as we re all workers at the end of the day in some form or another. Its not the workers fault that theres a strike, its the management of Transdev that are at fault. If management refused to honour your contract or raise your pay to coincide with inflation, how would you feel? Sad world when others dont see the bigger picture or wear the shoes of those out there on strike.

I agree there but management should have averted a strike with some compromise with workers instead of refusing to negotiate. Already in one day, Transdev are at a loss of 200k!. That makes perfect sense.

Are you aware of the complexity of a drivers job?

If a luas breaks down, not only are they trained technicians they are also trained mechanics..

Each driver is also trained to fix any mechanical breakdowns that occur...

See the points system across the city and outlying areas, they are not auyomatic, the drivers operate these alone, highly stressful work..

The drivers are not due a rise until 2020, before the government thought the Luas would flop...

The rates and the ectra being asked is to cover sickness, holiday pay ect...

people mentioned nurses fireman (women) and guards should be paid my I agree with nurses and firemen but at the moment the guards are just working as glorified protection for siteserv or they are running revenue collection schemes ie the amount of checkpoints around that the revenue/guards have been doing it actually a joke. one I saw had 20 guards all standing around doing sweet fuck all. im sure they could have managed with 5 and the other 15 could be out protecting the people from criminals or even solving a few crimes

6 weeks Training is all it takes to become a Luas driver

There are no technical skills required to drive a luas , neither mechanical or engineer skills are apart of the job

42k a week to push 1 lever and a door open/close button . The hardest part of the job is walking the lenght of the tram to switch cabs for the return journey

Its a great job for the drivers ( my cousin gave us taxi driving to drive for them ) He told me its the union driving the greedy negotiations with transdev

My point was not that nurses are not paid enough, but that as highly skilled in demand workers they could be looking for a lot more, but Luas drivers are unskilled in anyone's book not like real train drivers st all!
