However it has never been of such importance as it is celebrated in the Catholic Church. | |||

I don't do it for religious reasons, and I'm not part of any organised religion. but I do think periods of abstinence is good for the body and for the mind. I do this during Lent because it's as good a time as any other to do it, and others are likely to be doing the same thing so usually easier to manage in social situations. Also, if the thing I give up is something I have to spend money on, the money I save goes to charity (so I can't go on a big splurge afterwards ).

It shows how tough I can be when I set my mind to it. Not for everyone, but I for one, will do Lent..and sure it not hurting anyone
I'm the same. I don't do it for religious reasons, and I'm not part of any organised religion. but I do think periods of abstinence is good for the body and for the mind. I do this during Lent because it's as good a time as any other to do it, and others are likely to be doing the same thing so usually easier to manage in social situations. Also, if the thing I give up is something I have to spend money on, the money I save goes to charity (so I can't go on a big splurge afterwards ).
