In light of a new profile appearing yesterday of a "24 year old bi woman" who states she doesn't want to meet bi guys or gay guys because she doesn't want AIDS, it bugging me has our education system failed us in that this young person thinks if she doesn't meet these people she won't get AIDS

That has been on my mind since yesterday. Does she actually believe that all gay and bi people have aids or is it just written for attention.....

I'm sure a lot of ppl don't meet gay or bi men because the hiv rate is higher than in the straight community.

"Narrow mindedness......"

Is it I wonder or a lack of education around the subject of sex I see where the students union of Ireland is seeking a mandatory lecture on consent to be given to all new entrants to our college's

And I get that but it doesn't prevent one from contracting hiv

Why are you assuming she thinks it does?

The strength and conviction that she's put in to her profile and updates

This bizarre belief is deducted from HIV statistics that show that gay/bisexual men having sex with other men are the group most affected by HIV infections. To assume that every gay/bisexual man is infection riddled is truly very narrow minded.

By being a swinger everyone on here puts him/herself in a higher risk group too hence you might as well write on your profile 'not meeting swingers'

The only way to protect yourself is to practise consequently safe sex and to go for regular check ups.

Everything else is cuckoo stuff.

If we all play safe then sexuality is a non issue

My sentiments exactly the fact that's she sexuality active with numerous partners (as are the rest of us) increases her risk. But to state that she excludes these two groups so as not to contract the infection is delusional her next straight partner may well be infected

Play safe and test regularly is still only precautionary it doesn't exclude us from the catching the virus but to do this we must be educated about the subject

Id put it down to lack of education as well as pure ignorance and stupidity. Plenty of that in this Ireland among younger and older generations

SOMEWHERE ELUSIVE........AND HOT!!!

I was on a course years ago and did a talk about sti's etc. It is amazing that there are still a lot of people out there who think even a simple kiss will give you h.i.v if the other person is infected.

I don't know about the education system( sorry i can't spell) there's a lot of people that have problems with the stigma from the 1980's. Ignorance seems to have stuck with a lot of people.

More seminars need to be given with hard hitting facts instead of the soft way the schools deal with it

P.s.

There is no harm also showing graphic colour pics of cocks/pussies in various stages of s.t.i's. The importance of not using condoms.

Would you not blame parents rather than the education system. Should it not be part of the birds n bees convo.

There is a big section of kids that dont reach jnr cert never mind higher education.

Both parents and the education are to blame. I have plenty of friends that finished school very early.

My own parents never talked to me about the birds and bees.
