Be aware of risks of providing your phone number

Maybe i am one of the few that didn't know about reverse lookup on facebook. I didn't until a fabber used this method to find my personal details.He was able to enter my phone number into the search box on Facebook, the site can perform a reverse look-up and therefore he seen my profile, name, where I lived. I thought having locked my phone number as only visible to me, meant it shouldn’t be shared.

I was wrong, so please check your settings. Under privacy, there is a default setting for

'Who can look you up using the phone number you provided?' as 'everyone'. Change this to 'friends' and this will prevent the same happening to you. I couldn't believe this..is your number secure on facebook?

Lesson learned for me, was to use kik instead of whatsapp

Why would anyone put their personal phone number on Facebook? That's just leaving everything open for abuse.

It also applies to email, so set up a different email for naughty business...delete your number off face book, also don't use any pics on the site that you have on fb or any other social media

Yes, I was naive, at first, but you live and learn. My number now off facebook, and don't use whatsapp. The point of my post was to make any facebook users aware of reverse lookup if they have their number on facebook. Thanks for all advice though

Didn't realize my number was attached to my fb but I looked it up and removed it. I much prefer Kik for the anonymity it provides. I think in some respects using Whatsapp, for some, is a sign of genuineness because they have decided to share that info but I don't like doing it.

No danger of me using any of my fab pics on fb.

you can get a private number from SKYPE. firstly set up a private skype...not one that you already use for family or work. Then buy skype credit. Then you can buy a subscription to a skype number with your local area code. TI think it works by the call coming across phone network then switches to VOIP and you get the call over your skype. you can choose an 028 belfast number or dublin. you cant send texts but you can recieve them.

I made the same mistake before I started using apps and Facebook.

Facebook even suggests friends based on the numbers saved in your contacts.

It's perfect stalking material. and even after I deleted their phone numbers and changed privacy settings, they still came up on friend suggestions. It's scary!

Any private information and pictures, once in the Internet they're easily accessible, hackable and exposed to misuse. The amount of private information people share naively on Facebook is scary.

Regarding giving out your phone number as others said: kik or have a fab phone

And my answer to those few smart arses on fab still trying to get your phone number with some stupid tricks, is a simple straight f off!
