Maybe there should be an IQ test or a spelling and grammar test that determines how many forum posts a day you can make and how many threads you can begin!!!

Actually this began as a joke but I'm thinking unverified people shouldn't be able to start threads?

That's taking the higher road. I went a bit police-state for a moment. Apologies

The forum is public and anyone can post as they wish so long as they abide by the rules. Too bad if others don't like it.

I thought of suggesting that maybe only site supporters should be allowed to post on forums, but my opinions usually don't go down very well with the moderators on here! (S)

Some of the funniest and most memorable posts have been written by people with bad grammar and spelling while some of the most boring have been written by people with impeccable grammar and spelling. It's the content that matters.

I didn't know the forums existed until after I was verified. I guess it shows you have a bit of personality and that you are real. I have no issue with people posting in the forums though, it's more with starting multiple treads and machine-gun posting from the same people.

That's a fair point, but I get a bit annoyed at the (dare I say?) 'freeloaders' who leave (sometimes nasty) comments and then disappear before anyone can even reply. Of course, people who just want to express opinions within the 'rules' should be allowed to do so. Whether they are making any financial contribution to the site, or not.

Or maybe we shouldn't allow posts from all the people who proclaim themselves to be "good looking" both in their profiles and every email they send....really says it all about the individual.

I may have been told I'm good looking at some stage, but I ain't gonna splash it all over the shop. I let others decide that for themselves

That would require a huge amount of policing, then what happens if someone only says they are good looking every second message...I like the idea though

I think most of us here have had the nasty messages and comments in some form or another. A thick skin is definitely needed thats for sure.I use this site to suit me and no one else and avoid the people i get a bad vibe from either in a message or from what i read on the forum. Its a catch 22 situation really.

Maybe newbies should only be allowed to use the forums at first. Then they'd have to get to know people (and be advance blocked by others if needed!) Plus it'd cut down on the woe is me posts as they wouldn't be sending hundreds of messages that get no reply.

You may well have been joking when posting this. But a lot of horrible self serving posts seem to end with a smiley face or the "only joking" sign off so as to cover bases. If the thread goes down well the OP pushes their agenda if it goes poorly they fall back on smiley face or "only joking"

Agenda? Need I remind you of the site and the context of the original post. I sense a lot of anger in you blabbing on about building Utopias!? If I was serious the original post suggests a scale so no exclusion. Since I'm not, read the original post a d then take a chill pill.

It's not like I have the power to do this. It was a cheeky moaning thread. We had THRRE 'Hood morning' threads today, three! I didn't read them. In fact I never make disparaging comments on anyone's post even if I do scoff at it. It's not my place so in keeping with advice and practicing what we preach; if you see a thread you don't like -ignore it or don't say anything at all.

-to take the edge off it and communicate in a visual way that I'm joking.

Actually if you read my follow up post I did say that I am not saying that that was YOUR intention but it does happen. What sometimes happens is people latch on to a post and it develops into something other than the original purpose. Someone else may read it and think hmmmm yes newbies should be indeed banned. Not a direct criticism of you I actually think you are one of the better posters on forums.

I would be the first to admit I'm guilty of the tit for tat bs you've mentioned but only if someone has majorly pissed me off by directing comment of a erm how to phase it rude nature in me or kitty's direction but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it. Better things to be up to on fab

What I don't get is if I post a slightly controversial forum topic I will expect criticism from those who differ from me in my opinions,it may well be a joke post and I am not having a pop at the OP if I was I woukld word it very differently I just think that posts like this can give fuel to the fire for other people to have a go at newbies etc
