Is it only me who's stunned but fckn delighted to see this guy finally getting his comeuppance!!!

Oscar Pistorious conviction of manslaughter has been overturned and he's now facing a minimum of 15yrs..

Definitely not defending the guy but I was shocked to see how the south African justice system works. The prosecution doesn't like the verdict on the crime they charged him on so they come back for another try?

If I recall correctly Italian law is similar.

I just heard on the radio that it was due to an appeal of the original verdict,there were some flaws in the trial,which led to an unjust verdict the first time.It was something to do with the fact that he kept unloading the gun in through the bathroom door after the fact that he must have known he had shot and possibly killed someone on the other side of the door.Anyway the reports later will clarify any speculation.

Good enough for the swine once he serves all of the 15 yrs sentence.

Person is charged with a crime. Trial is held. Jury hears evidence and gives verdict/recomendation. Judge hands down verdict and punisment. End of

You can't keep going back bc you don't like the outcome unless you're the defendant and even then in some cases you will be denied a retrial.

Again I'm not defending the guy but to those of you that are all up on good he deserves it. Where the hell were you the first time around to give your statement as an eye witness to a crime??

My understanding is he was charged with murder, the judge then found him guilty of manslaughter. There was no jury just a judge. There justice system differs to ours.

Both the state & individuals have a right (& should have) to appeal against a sentence whether it is too lenient or too severe. Less than 1 year served for the deliberate murder of a human being was never going to cut it.

Delighted? No, I wouldn't see anyone's downfall as something to gloat about. It is good that justice has been done, hopefully it will give some measure of peace to his victim's family.

Why would witnesses be needed to decide whether a convict had been too lightly or too harshly sentenced? His guilt has already been established.

The right to appeal is fundamental in a democratic justice system. Both prosecution or convicted can appeal either the verdict or the sentence. The same principles apply in just about any self respecting judicial system.

If an appeal is upheld or not will depend on the grounds and arguments brought before the appeals court. If the original presiding judge applied the law correctly and a sentence was in line with what would be considered normal in the circumstances you'll have a hard time getting a re-trail.

I think it's great that the poor girls family may feel that they will finally get some justice...

Imagine all the guilty men and women walking free because of loopholes in the law...

I actually thought it was going to be another OJ Simpson scenario he was 100% guilty too...

Reading the supreme court judges statement it's obvious they were discussed with the original verdict!

Fair fucking play I say!!

A load of bollocks that just made solicitors and judges even wealthier!! It won't bring the young lady back and guarantees an angry man being let back into a society where guns are widely available in about 10 years. My solution is to put Oscar into exile, ban him from ever returning to South Africa and give his fortune to the Steenkampf family.
