We are planning two nights away new years day and after

Based in cork so looking for place with in two hours journey

Not big drinkers (Betty doesn't even drink) but like having nice enjoyable drink after a meal or before hand

Be nice if hotel had spa or places to go for a nice walk

Any ideas for us ?

It would have to be Galway some great hotels and spa's. There always something to do in the daytime. Even that time of year some of the walks around are fabulous.

You'll be lucky if there is any rooms left in hotels at this stage. We booked for New year with the same idea and we struggled to get somewhere decent but you could get lucky with a cancellation.

Radisson blu in Limerick has a good spa, incredibly comfortable beds at the right height (!) and the best breakfast selection we have seen pretty much anywhere.

Maritime hotel in Bantry is fab. Great restaurant, a spa, bar with music and loads of great scenic drives within close range. It's one of our favourite spots to go for a short break.

Killarney has some fabulous hotels. Try the muckross park hotel, hotel Europe or the aghadoe

If you want something in a quieter spot try the parknasilla in sneem.

All great places to relax and be pampered

We have stayed in 'whitford hotel' in wexford a few times, only 2hrs away, great food, leisure centre, spa treatment, lovely town and only a few miles from curracloe beach with raven point woods and 16 km of a sandy beach. Highly recommended and very reasonable.
